Joey Bed Refurb

My Joey was pretty rough so I refurbished it. Laid down new carpet in the compartment and on the Joey and did some repainting. The Joey's box comes right out with no disassembly. Just have to lift it free of the rail and it slides right out. in my 34' it is held down with six 3/8" bolts (think it's the same on other models) so it's not difficult to remove the whole shebang to recarpet. It's a one man job on this one but the larger Joeys in the 36 and 40 footers will require some help. I got the carpet from Foretravel and their price is competitive with what you'll find on the interweb.

John,
What did you use to spread the load on the through bolts (under side of basement)?

I'd wonder how many people are lined-up to buy John's coach once he finishes all the "projects", and buys another?  ^.^d

Mike, I am not telling how many as want to keep them "lined up" for when the time comes. I have to admit I AM running out of things to "fix" on it. ^.^d  Need to buy another one to rebuild again to sell.

John,

Great job and nice writeup!

Laid down new carpet in the compartment and on the Joey and did some repainting.
Did you have to remove the old red glue, or were you able to lay the new carpet down over it? What did you use (if anything) to remove the red stuff? What did you use to glue down the new carpet?

it is held down with six 3/8" bolts
Do you remember how long those bolts were?

Did you have any rusty areas on the old frame?

Thanks,

Trent

I used 2" flat washers and lock nuts. The factory washers were 1 1/2". I run a bead of Dicor on the washer so it squishes out when tightened. Then I coat the washer, nut and bolt threads with Dicor. On my reels I used a single piece of 1/8" aluminum as a back plate.

I did not remove the red glue. Not necessary. I used a couple of different brands of sticky tack I had. There are lots of products available in rattle cans. Regarding red glue removal, I removed it in the wet bay. I used acetone and elbow grease. It does not come up easily. I wouldn't want to do that for a large area. See photo.

Three inches.

Yes. Not much. See photo.

Well seems since I posted that last one a few people have called and I have been "fixing "things for them.  Today rebuilt the Air Dryer on coach as last time I did it was 3 yrs ago and 40k miles so as I had the kits what the heck. Now good for another 3 yrs!!
Put some Fascia trim around the garage door and painted it. Garage is all clean and organized and all the light in it are finally working. Hmm what next?
