Stand Alone Temp Monitor

Wanting Temp Monitor for my Coach at RV storage facility - this one does temp (hi/low) and humidity, can monitor water in 16 places with add on sensors -

$200 on Amazon - three data plans to choose from - $99 a year is most expensive - based on Verizon, but roams if no VZN service

well reviewed on Amazon -

MarCELL 500 Cellular monitoring system - - Amazon.com

Anyone else have a better solution that does not involve a RJ45 wire connection into a router- I have WiFi at the RV storage facility, but can not run a wire from their router to my coach.... :-)

Great and timely thread!
Two problems for me:
    • Needs WiFi access which I don't have at my storage facility
    • Battery powered - thus not knowledgeable of coach power status which is my primary desire.

The Marcel 500 seams to address those issues.

Over a 10 year period, here are the estimated costs for an eight sensor system (I will also have two water sensors, not included in this analysis) including initial investment:

$176 Acurite smartHUB (80+8*12)
$9600 MarCELL (200*8+8*99*10)
$1200 Temp Stick (149*eight)

Guess the choice depends on your requirements. My requirements are:
- Monitor 8 temperatures and 2 water alarms while the rig is stationary, in storage at my home
- Web-based monitoring
- Low cost

The problem with the Acurite system is that when the rig is away from my home internet connection, there is no Acurite product to monitor all 8 temperature sensors. Only three temperatures can be monitored at a time with a separate battery-operated LCD device.

I certainly won't challenge your  pat analytics, but my challenge is I only have Wi-Fi or cellular coverage where my coach is stored.
For my purposes one temperature sensor plus power monitoring will give me the information I need to get intervention prior to serious damage taking place to the coach or batteries. I might add one water sensor, which has a one time cost of $99,  and is monitored by the same single Marcel unit. Actually it would appear from the documentation that the primary and single Marcel unit can monitor power temperature and multiple water sensors.
Not sure how you came to $9600 as a cost for the Marcel I see it as $300 initial cost including one water sensor, and $99 per year for the access to the cellular network for monitoring. So in my case I'm looking at a 10 year cost of $1300.
Would love to have a system that is based on a hardwired Internet connection with no monitoring fees, but that is simply not an option where I store my RV.
When I get back to Washington state I'm going to buy the Marcel and set it up. I will report back my impressions and installation experience.

Agreed, MarCELLl or Temp sticks have their use cases and are worth the money. It all depends on whether you have ethernet, wifi or cellular access.

I read the reviews on Ambient. Their customer feedback curves were more "U" shaped, indicating more preformance and reliability issues than Acurite.
