AGM batterie problem

When checking house batteries today I found significant amount of corrosion on the negative terminals of two of the batteries.
I did not think you would get corrosion on a AGM batterie. Batteries are one year old. Batteries were put in by FOT and it looks like there is a clear coating on the terminals. Anyone have any idea why I would be getting corrosion on these batteries?

Good job checking on things like your batteries.  I wouldn't worry about it too much. Corrosion can come from reactions to many sources.  Clean the terminal posts and cable ends well and spray on a corosion inhibitor like CorrosionX and reassemble.  Check the terminals every few months to make sure they are tight.  All part of a normal maintenance routine.

I would call the manufacturer of the battery and talk to them. In all of my dealings with AGM batteries I have never had corrosion issues, I.E. sealed battery. You may also want to make sure you battery chargers is working correctly, and not over charging.

I have never seen white powder from corrosion on sealed AGM battery posts.
Are you sure they are sealed AGM batteries and not "maintenance free" flooded?
If they are sealed AGM, I would look for evidence of cracks in the case or leaking around the posts.
Use baking soda in water to wash the posts and cables and watch for boiling/frothing which indicates presence of acid.

I checked out Jim's batteries and they are Lifeline AGMs (3). The positive terminals are clean as a whistle but the negatives have a pile of yellowish clumps around them. I've only dealt with wet cells so suggested he post here to tap into the collective hive mind of ForeForum.

I advised him not to clean them until after posting. Wyatt I like your idea to clean with baking soda and look for bubbling. I'll pass it on to Jim he's not addicted to FoFum as I am. Thanks!

We have had Lifelines in the coach since March 2011 and they are as clean as day 1 so I for sure would talk to Lifeline. They are expensive batteries to replace.

I installed two Lifeline AGM 8D batteries in May, 2010 and was disappointed when their capacity had reduced to 20AH and 40AH by Nov 2015, so 5.5 years and about 1200 cycles (to between 80% and 90%). The other 8D, a Lifeline Gel from 2003 had reduced to 65AH after 12 years and over 2000 cycles. Lifeline told me in May 2010 that their AGM batteries would last as long as a Gel due to chemical changes made.

You can seal the area between the lead post and the plastic battery case using silicone.  Clean the area around the post, apply the silicone and let it set up before attaching the cable.  The silicone will keep any fumes from leaking out.

Just read this and I also have one neg, post out of my 3 batteries that gets corrosion on it, it is the only post that I have issues with, my batteries are Lifeline and 5 years old. I will check and see if any cracks,
