mounting new back up camera

I've tried searching the archives for info on mounting a back up camera.  I was disappointed to find that the old camera is in a rectangular box that is welded to the slotted panel.  It looks like I have two options:  I can mount the new camera on the exterior of the coach or take the panel down, cut out the old housing while keeping the bottom plate for mounting the new camera.  Does anyone have a different solution that they've tried?  Back up cameras seem to the one of the top discussions on this forum. 
If the exterior camera option is the way to go, any recommendations on camera?

Sven,
It's not difficult, just time consuming.  You can do it.  I cut the old camera out and mounted the new one in the same location with very little modification.  Here is the link to my installation and if you need any advice you can call me.  Message me and I will send you my phone number.

I went with the external mount, and it has worked very well, with no problems so far.  Most of the cameras now being sold are sealed against the elements, so exposure is not a problem.  Your OEM camera setup is different, of course, but you could still use this method, if you desire.  The only upkeep required on our camera is occasionally cleaning off the lens cover.

I just cut a aluminum plate to the correct size, painted it white, and mounted the camera on the plate using the supplied brackets.  Pretty simple!

Backup Camera Modification
John, I enjoyed your write up and the camera looks pretty straight forward, but the camera is different than the one I ordered.  I noticed the price is considerably higher than others on the market (and the system I purchased).  Is there an appreciable difference in the quality of the image or performance?

There is so much to choose from out there.  It all depends on what you are comfortable with.  Price varies tremendously.  If you google Keyhole backup camera you will find a variety of camera's at different price ranges.  RVCams is where I purchased everything. They were very helpful in the installation and were knowledgeable about our Foretravel and knew exactly what I needed.  Plus I chose Voyager products because they make a great product.  You don't have to use a Keyhole camera.  You can mount a camera on the outside over the old location.  It all depends on creativity and how much you want to spend. Tadibrothers is another source you may want to check out.
