Steer tire suggestions where to buy

My coach has 9 R 22.5 Bridgestones , where is the most inexpensive place to get replacements? Or possibly trued / shaved? I am in NW Indiana 40 miles from Chicago. Thanks Friends

Awhile back someone posted a link to a business that I believe was out of kentucky or tennesee that specializes in selling rv and truck tires. You buy from them and their price included shipping to a local installer as well as all fees for installation. I remember it being significantly cheaper than any local tire prices ive seen, but dont remember the name of the business.

I KNOW anyone who showed up at my business with parts bought elsewhere, got the message:" You assume the warranty, pal."

That being said, depending on your mileage planned, Goodyears and Michelins are the best. Low rent all you want.

Well my one front tire has flat spots, I just need it trued; or shaved to get it round again. it is a near new tire with good tire date. where do I find a shop with a tire truer?...in nw Indiana area??? thanks again

You need to have the alignment checked.

"near new" does not get it. Ever blown a steer tire? Not pretty.

I love saving money. That said, I would not consider anything but brand new, recent date code tires on my coach.

Lots or people that are much smarter than me and have more experience than I do feel that you should never use retreads on a motorhome. All I have between my loved ones and the road, supporting more than 30,000 pounds are my tires.

For me tires are the most important safety feature on my coach. I want good ones.

I don't know about other states, but in California it is illegal to have retreads on the front axle of trucks not sure if it applies to motorhomes or not
On another note the tire that blew on my 1981 was not a retread but a 10.00 X 20 split rim. I changed to 14.5 tubeless after the blowout.

Tie rod ends. The greased wheel bearings, drag link, Pittman arm if worn will result in flat spots.

Rotating the tires to the rear can wear the flat spots back down.

Thanks! My tire needs shaved because of an accident I had which I posted about in the past, last summer. The tire never went flat but was ground down a couple spots and now it vibrates when driving. I hope to find a tire shop that shaves tires.
I emailed pomps tire...fingers crossed.

I have used Pomps and Herman Tire. Both are capable, slight edge to Herman Tire. Have to watch all of them because they just hit the studs too hard with air gun before they move to torque wrench

The front is not the place to go cheap, shaved or re-grooved tires if you have to use them go as far back as possible. But whatever you decide to do get your coach laser aligned at a commercial/truck tire shop. This should identify any wear on king pins, drag links and the steering assembly. I had Toyo's put on the front 2 yrs ago, with the alignment, tires, new stems etc I was out the door for $1,200 much cheaper than the cost of a front end blow out.......if you survive

Find the best price with the warehouse close to you for lower cost for shipping. I have Les Schwab install for a very reasonable cost. Keep at least one for a spare. I don't go anywhere without the spare in the belly.

Tim has it right about the air guns. Talk to them and keep your eyes open.

X2, in spades. When you blow a front with 70 to 100 psi, the mind does not compute fast enough to inform you what has happened. When we blew our one and only, my first thought was the front suspension had come apart! I had luck on my side as I was not going that fast and got over. A cop stopped by to see what was what, looked at the trashed tire and rim, and said, "Someone is smiling on you guys."

Tires are not naturally round, instead they are slightly oval or egg shaped. The inability to produce perfectly rounded rubber tires creates the need for weights to balance tires and wheels. Tire truing does not eliminate tire weights; instead it eliminates the oval on the tire. The process of truing will provide a much smoother ride, longer lasting tires, better tire wear, and more efficient fuel mileage. You will save gas by having your tires trued.

Please verify that the G rated tires are adequate for YOUR GAWR. That size also comes in H ratings.

John , have you checked out Redburn Tire in Phoenix? 602.272.7601 My files show looks like they did a complete job for the PO when the fresh Michelins went on.

Its funny how the man ask a simple question for info if anybody knew any info and then he gets bombarded with everybody opinion on how and what he should do and not do, I am pretty sure if he wanted to know what to do he would have asked the question that way, I have see this happen so many times on this forum and it is very RUDE!

Here is a company that makes tire truing machines-- at least they were a couple of years ago when I needed it done. Check with them for a list of dealers in your area-- many will not be able to work with your size tires (they may specialize in, say race car tires). Are you referring to the original post? in the original, he asked for either a cheap source of new tires or where to get his current ones trued up or shaved. In the title he asked for suggestions on steer tires and where to buy. multiple questions, answered by multiple people on different directions to go. How this becomes rude I do not understand, but rather a very good internet DISCUSSION on multiple directions to go to get tires trued, replaced, shaved, etc!

I dont think anyone came into here with their opinions to insult the original poster, but rather to help them make an informed decision on how to proceed based on each persons own knowledge, opinion and experience. That is what makes this so wonderful!
