Source For Sheppard M100 PDP1

Looked at all the previous post,but I can't find a source for for the Shepard M100 PDP1 steering box. Haldex is back oredered and Red Head is out as well. The shop I want to use for the repair doesn't want the rv sitting in their shop waiting for a reman from Red Head. I am in SC. Any ideas would be helpful. I would be willing to buy a bad unit to send out for reman.

It would be best to have yours rebuilt, if you go back and research the posts there is a shop in ca that rebuilt these boxes, will try and find it.Can you drive the coach home and find a mechanic to remove and install the box?Brett Wolf will probably have an idea.

Ricky, from what I was able to find out you will not find one unless you can find an RV junkyard with one. There was a post about a salvage yard a couple days ago, you may want to check that.

It is drive-able. I prefer to have a box ready to go when I take to the shop. I really don't want to take it off myself, but if I have to I can.

Try straight line steering in San Jose, ca. They are redheads parts source on sometimes their sub I understand.

Emit, I did mine myself, with the help of my son to do the heavy lifting. The one thing I discovered is that "Foretravel" reversed the shaft that controls the pitman arm, so it would clear the airbag support frame. all of the parts are the same, just that the shaft is located on the opposite side of the steering gear box. I thought there was a video but I can't find it right now. Here is the video;

I had my M-100 re-built by Steer and Gear In Columbus, OH a year ago. 614-231-4064 I am sure you can send it to them. Their shop had racks of hundreds of steering gear boxes for every truck you can imagine, but no M-100s in stock to swap. Apparently they are not used very often on big trucks.

The family that owns the shop has been in business for generations - since WWII if I remember correctly. They had no difficulty using the correct size balls, seals etc. for my box. No slack or play in the steering wheel when done. I am very satisfied with their work.

The biggest expense for our Foretravels is removal and re-installation because the generator is in the way on 2002 and others. So If you already have it out, the rebuild expense about $700 to $800.

Had mine rebuilt in Houston, took 1 day. RV Masters. They had it sent out. I have downloaded the manual. Its online (approx 70 pages).

Give Foretravel or MOT a call. They aren't cheap but they were available. There is also a shop in Dallas that rebuilds them but you must go through a vendor. Mine was replaced twice, don't ask, 400-600 in labor as I recall. I didn't have the strength to do it myself.

I sold the rebuilt box on to Rodney Higgins for his coach - not exactly sure how soon his core will be available.

1300 pricey bucks for the repair. One day turnaround. Included 4 wheel alignment and a year warranty on parts and labor. Steering is nice and tight. This is my third engagement with W.W. Williams and I couldn't be more satisfied.

If you got removal, rebuild and replace with the wheel alignment for that you did very well!

Original Quote was $1600 and some change. I was able to talk them down on the labor portion once I showed them the access to the box on a GV. You can have a party under the front cap. Plus I PB Blasted and cleaned everything for the last week so their job would be clean and easy.
