In dash stereo

Our dash unit refuses to switch off , background lights flashing and unit getting very hot .
Unplugged the cable harness at the back to avoid any overheat or worse .
So first question, I have the two extractor tools but can't get unit to move out of dash .
Second question, anyone have a working unit the would like to sell or advice on an simple straight forward replacement unit

What brand radio do you have?  Do you have the owner's manual?  Usually you have to hold the power button in for some amount of time(5 sec) to shut them off.  The extractor tools can be difficult.  You may have to expand the edges of the radio slightly with a small flat bladed screwdriver to persuade the radio to release from its case.

I replaced mine with a Kenwood DNX570HD. Pulled the old one out and slid the Kenwood in with very minor modifications.

Unsure manufacture but doesn't matter how long hold button it goes to flashing on and off .
Plays fine just won't go off

Is it an aftermarket radio or the original - can you take a picture?

Most aftermarket stereos:
1) Have a faceplate that needs removal - the front plastic panel with all the buttons comes right off, usually by pressing a little release button in one of the 4 corners. The the radio won't turn on without the faceplate so that is an alternate way to shut it off.
2) Have one release in the middle of either side holding it in.  Sometimes this is a small spring lever, and sometimes this just a piece of bent metal from the outside of the radio that catches on the frame to  Either way, slide your tools in as far as they will go on the left and right side of the radio and work them around until you hear a click/spring release, and then you can pull them out.  Depending on the stereo, you may need to work the tools in above/below the catch, get behind it, and pull back toward you to get the catch to release.

Here is a youtube video of the removal steps:  Although if you decide to use knives like he did, you'll definitely want to disconnect the battery if your stereo is running hot and always has power!

RE: Replacements Units - unless you replace with the exact same model, it's unusual to put in a new stereo where you don't need to re-do the speaker wire.  In your case, with the stereo running hot, you may want to consider rewiring even if you are able to find the same model to ensure the new model doesn't have the same issue.

Yes, photo please.  At one point we had a working OEM unit from a 2003 somewhere in our garage but not sure if it's the same as yours.

That said, as others are mentioning there are a lot of nice replacement units out there if you don't absolutely have to have the OEM one.

FWIW,
I had best buy hook up an aftermarket radio for me.  The cost and install were reasonable.  I did not spend a lot.  Frankly, I don't remember how much.  I did get one of their "on sale" units and paid the cost to install (which was reasonable).  This was done probably a couple of years ago and have not had a hitch or problem since.  I would certainly consider going there again.  Best of Travels.

If the unit has a demo mode you have to turn the demo off to turn the unit off. You are in demo mode if it changes colors and shows features.

Here are photos of what we have; yes a Ford unit (and a tad dusty).  Ours is a reman, worked when last in our coach (several years ago).  Jimmy - you are welcome to it for the cost of shipping if you want to take a chance on ours still working.  If not, at least you can see the part number on the rear and remanufacture tags.

Do what reply number 7 said and get the tech to come to the coach, have had the tools in a ford radio for years and will not come
out so just did not upgrade, there is no way we can somehow tell you how to get the radio out.

To each his own but the last thing I would put in your coach is another old ford radio.

That is called a double din radio, you could always get a single din one that is half the height of that one,a new one would have
I phone and bluetooth inputs.

I just replaced my unit (looks like the same Ford stereo above) with an after market one.  If anyone else can use the original, let me know and we can coordinate getting it to you.  It was working fine upon removal.  Just replaced it to get a unit with the Apple CarPlay feature.
