Service Questions

Getting ready to service my engine oil and filters and I have a few questions.  This is my first time doing this on a diesel.
1.  Just verifying that my engine holds 10.3 gal of oil.
2.  While looking under the coach picture 1 I found this.  What is it?  It looks like it's missing something.  It looks like an exhaust port on the cylinder.  Looks like it may have had some type of filter or cover on it.
3.  Picture 2-Item (1) Do I need to remove and clean the clear reservoir and how?
4.  Picture 2-Item (2) Do I need to do anything to the puke bag?  It has some liquid in it.  Do I drain it?

The Winn system you have are notorious for leaking.  Really recommend  replacing it when you can.

If it's not leaking now you are fortunate

Picture 1 is the air activation valve at end of hydraulic (trans) retarder cylinder and it can be left like this or put a piece of tubing on it to keep nozzle clean. Mine is like yours.

What is the WINN System?  Is it the secondary fuel system?  What do you replace it with? Currently not leaking.

John,

The best way to verify is to get your engine info (located on a sticker on the curb side of the engine) and call Cummins to make sure as to what oil pan you have and proper amount. You should also be able to find this info on computer at Cummins QuickServe Online. While you are at it check the dip stick after you fill to Cummins specs. as the dip stick may be off.

Tubing is OK but don't cap it off!  It needs to vent to allow the retarder to released.

The WINN system is your fuel filter, pump and bag.

The cummins mechanic at the main dealer in LA used to work for a major truck fleet and remembered they had lots of air leaks with the system on their trucks.


Replaced with a Parker Racor 790r with a 125 filter on it

From your pics, I would not go anywhere before using Extend spraying can on all that rust.  Follow can directions and don't remove surface rust before applying.

Rust Converter Spray, Extend Rust Neutralizer from Loctite Adhesives

Lowe's has it.  We use it on all surface rust and it works for us.
