Why On Off on Breaker at Genset?

Genny has these switches.  Why not just a reset?

Those aren't just switches they are breakers. If they trip you will have to reset them. They should be your line breakers.  The little round fuse holder should be for your field it should have like a 2 to 3 amp fuse in it.

The generator is used for other applications also. Not just RV use. Someone using it in a field application might plug directly into it.

Conductors need to be protected from overload and short circuit conditions at their source.

I recently had problems with a troublesome 10a circuit breaker.  After replacing it without solving the problem, I investigated more thoroughly.  I found three wires in the control box where vibrations over time had rubbed through insulation creating the potential short circuits.  They would have been excellent smoke generators if the the CB was resetting.
