Back-up monitor / Tank monitor fuzzy

At first, my screen did not work, then it worked for a few weeks, now it is back to fuzzy. Is there a fix for this?  Replacement?

It would be nice to clearly see where the tank levels are at.  It would also be nice to watch the dinghy from time to time! :)

I thought mine was junk, yours gets the vote, no offense!  My camera is useless and the grey and black are dumb, also. Will be curious how you fix this.

FWIW,
I changed my CRT screen (like yours) to a 7 inch TFT monitor that I got off ebay for about $20-25.  It works well.  I removed the old monitor and ran the hook up to the new monitor.  I just used some velcro to attach to the dash.  So far, so good.  It did take some time to figure out all the electric stuff.  I'm just not that good with electrics.  I did buy a side view camera but have not mounted it yet.  My monitor has 2 channels.  You may wish to get 4 channels and then would could watch L,R,Back and heck even front if you were inclined.  I think I can see fine on the drivers side, but was thinking about the camera on the passenger side but just haven't done yet.  I can see just fine with the new monitor.  Best of Travels.

That how mine used to look! My next step is a see if there is a loose cable under the dash. Odd that it has worked (clearly) 20% of the time but now it is blurry all of the time.

This is pretty similar to how mine looks.  While it's not impossible that it is a monitor issue - to me it looks like a signal problem. The video lines run through the Audit computer, and out to the monitor.  That computer wasn't meant to last 21 years!  Our signal gets worse (and eventually goes grey altogether) when the engine or generator is running - I opened the doghouse to look at it, feels like it is a result of years of overheating.

If you are handy with wires, you should be able to salvage the backup camera by pulling the video-in and video power supply from the old computer, and wiring direct to a new monitor and the power switch.

But you'll probably be stuck having to obtain a new tank level monitoring system if the current blurry display just won't cut it.

Two other things you might want to check before scrapping the current system:
1) They sell those little TFT monitors for 30 dollars, you can always buy one and do a test re-wire to make sure it actually is a computer issue, and not the monitor.
2) There also should be one or two tuning adjustment knobs, either on the dash or on the monitor itself.  Worth playing with those to see if the signal gets any clearer.

There is a fix. In the metal case that surrounds the monitor are small holes. They maybe labeled, maybe not. You use a small NON metallic  screw driver to adust the screws. They could be allen head, I had both. They will adjust horizontal, vertical, and focus.

I had to remove the heater controls to get to the adjustment screws.

Good answer. That is what I recall as well.  But if the picture is still sub-par, replace it (as I did on our 1993).

Had similar issue with mine...here is how I handled it. Replaced the monitor and camera. I removed the old camera and exterior surround. I cut the exterior surround to fit the new color camera , painted and reinstalled. Works great!

Your replacement did not last very long, Brett, I never use it!  :-[

Fred,
Does it show fuzzy when you switch to camera or compass?
Here is what I did on my coach.

Monitor looks like the first t.v. my folks bought, not sure if its the camera or Audit. The grey/blackwater indicators do not work, either.
I don't need either, so no big deal.  ^.^d

Mike,

That is an EXTREME high end monitor (read expensive)-- most sold for high end muti-screen security systems. If the monitor is not working, contact Totevision. Google Totevision.

PM if you need details.

The camera-monitor-audit box are likely failure points. If you want a clean slate and no problems, put in a new camera and monitor and throw the Audit box. For tank levels, you can replace the stock setup with a SeeLevel system. Once done, you won't have any more worries. There are a lot of posts on both of these modifications.

For the camera and monitor, you can go high as Brett mentioned above (the one I chose) or go low with an inexpensive Chinese setup. Either way you'll get a nice color image.
