How to Remove Hockey Puck Ceiling Light?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post.  My wife and I have a 2009 Nimbus and are on our first long trip.  We're loving it so far!

A few of the halogen lights have gone out and I need to replace them.  I'll probably go with LED but the first challenge is getting the covers off.  I managed to figure out the clear glass lights but the lights with 2 metal rings have me puzzled.  I've searched this forum and the internet but I can't find anything with this particular light.  I don't want to tear them up just to figure it out.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get the covers off this light?

Thanks!

Push up on the metal ring and turn counterclockwise.  Might take a few tries but it will come out.  David

Mine were so stuck with the heat I used a big pair of chanellock pliers and gently squeezed them and turned

I used a good sized piece of rubberized, perforated shelf liner to enhance my grip with most of both hands and followed the above.

I've replaced 90% of mine with LED and have found that the above suggestion is what has worked the best for me.  Like some have said depending on age & use some may take a bit more elbow grease.

Can't tell from the picture which you have, but generally there are two types you find on Foretravels.

One type is where the bezel turns or pops off, and once off it will reveal the mounting screws and/or the bulb.

The second type has spring clips attached to the fixture, most look along these lines.    To remove those you pull down on the fixture until it pops free.  The only caution here is that the springs can be pretty strong and when you pull it clear of the ceiling you don't want your finger in the wrong place, those clips are a cuticle killer !

I'm a bit slow responding because we're traveling and I needed both time to try out the suggestions and a decent internet connection.

Bottomline, I got it out and I only busted one light figuring out how to do it.  These are the pull down type.  The entire light enclosure is held in by clips & you can pull it out.  However, to access the light, you have to jam a very small screwdriver or blade into the thin metal ring around the glass & pull it down.  Its not really necessary to pull the entire light enclosure out.  The small ring is hellish difficult to pull - as a few of the responses mentioned.  I'm including some pictures in case others ever need to tackle this particular light.  The small round/flat LED's fit this enclosure fine and we'll eventually switch all the halogens out.

Thanks for the advice!  Particularly helpful was the knowledge that if it didn't rotate, it had to pull loose.
