1998 U 270 gauges are almost impossible to see

I was wondering if I am the only one that experiences hard to see gauges on the older FT; and what others have done to correct the problem.

I can read the gauges but reading the type and switch/dial position locators is another story.
Someday I will try to replace the dash bulbs or string LED lights around the top of the dash or fit them were the stock bulbs are.
At night a small flash light comes in handy to get a fix on were the switches are turned to.
This is on my "pet peves" list. Top of that list by a LONG way is the opening of the storage bay doors," the scalper!" That one has me inventing or using profanity that I though I had long forgotten.

There is a dimmer function on the dash lights.
