Generator fuel hose

To those of you who have done this,do the 2 generator fuel hoses run from the generator directly to the tank or is there a
junction somewhere? Will be replacing mine and wondering what is the best way to replace these hoses.

John,

It is a direct run.

You just have to contend with the hose brackets and ty wraps between where the hoses come out of the generator box and where they enter the cable run.

Many of us have found that the generator hoses most often fail where they bend at the rear of the generator compartment.  Installing a coupling and replacing just the front section of both hoses is much cheaper and easier to do.

I just replaced the generator feed line on our U300 generator. I did look at the YouTube video of the operation on a Foretravel but can't figure why they did it that way. The generator does not have to be slid out as it makes the operation much more difficult. I bought a roll of diesel resistant hose off ebay. If you connect the old hose to the new, the hose has to travel around and over other hoses in the compartment. Much easier to take a long piece of steel tubing like a long brake line and feed it through the hole once the old one is out of the way. You can see all the way to the far side of the tank through the hole so just connecting the new hose to the tubing make it a snap and without any turns or obstructions. I also used a crow's foot on the fuel tank fitting. Makes removing it a one minute job. Use ABA fuel hose clamps, not the gear type. See here: ABA 22013 Mini Stainless Fuel Injection Style Clamp 10-PK: Amazon.com:... Auto supply store stainless clamps cut into the hose.

Problems: the fitting at the tank and the generator is a different size at each end. Ours looked OEM so assuming the factory did this. This make it a little harder to push the hose over the end of the fitting. I thought I was seeing things looking at both fittings.

I left the return line intact. Changing the supply hose took about 15 minutes if you have the tools ready to go. Check yours by wearing strong glasses, use a good light and then bend the hose. Ours had millions of tiny cracks.

Research the fuel line you want to use. They are all very reasonable in bulk.

Just splice it anywhere you want with a hose barbs & hose clamps.

Pierce,
What did *you* wind up using after your research?
Thanks,
Trent
Trent,

I knew someone would ask me that. I can't remember and can't find it on my ebay history. Parker makes an excellent hose but is expensive. Any USCG (Coast Guard) approved hose should do the trick. Check ebay.
