Generator dash light

hi all, newbie here so be patient please. I picked up my first coach Monday a 2000 u320 and on the way home the green light on the dash indicating the generator is running stopped working. when I stop the generator the red and green will flicker a time or 2 so I know the light is not burnt out. any ideas on where to start to fix this problem? where does the light get it's signal from the generator? it was working when I left MOT and stopped in Lufkin after a lunch stop, the coach was stopped but the generator was left on during the lunch stop...  the generator is a powertech 10k

Keith,

Did you get the electrical schematics with your coach?  They are the first stop (a necessity) when trouble-shooting any electrical problem.

Although, now that I have typed that, I went and looked at the schematics for our coach.  I don't see any mention of ANY generator circuits (such as starting/stopping, pre-heat, or monitor lights) on either of the 12V diagrams.  If yours are the same, they may not be much help.

Edit:  I do see one wire (B39) coming off the battery disconnect switch (by the door) that goes to the generator starter.

On my 1994 GV with a 10kv Powertech that green tattle tale light is activated by an oil pressure detecting switch on the back side of the genset.  Mine stayed on even after the genset shut down I didn't think anything of it until I Heard  the electric fuel pump running and looked at the genset hour meter which had ran for almost 5 months racking up 3500 hours on a genset that was not running. So my oil pressure detecting switch was stuck as if pressure was on it and would not have shut down if no pressure was available.

Did you get the Powertrch manual with the rest of your documents?  I am not sure if your model has the electronic control box, but I'd so it sounds like you are not getting the signal out. If you don't have the manual, call Powertech with your exact model number and talk to them.
