Norcold 8 series hinges

If you have a Norcold 8 series, you may want to check the bottom hinge top portion. It is plastic against a metal post. I opened the fridge two days ago and heard a distinctive crack. The door came off its hinge.

I thought I was going to have to replace the entire door. I did a search and found that this was a common problem with both the six and eight series. So common that the company sells a retrofit for the hinges. I won't rant here about what I think of Norcolds business model.

You can purchase the hinge modification on eBay, or Amazon etc. the cost is just under $30.  At best two dollars worth of materials. You have to love a company whose poor engineering, think ARP, and now hinges as a profit center.

The picture shows the kit and the broken plastic receiver for the metal post.  I would have replaced them when we first got the coach but did not realize what the problem was and there was just too much beer in the bottom shelf.
