Air filter P14-8043

Ok so my filterminder was showing 15". Checked the filter (Donaldson P14-8043), year and a half old very dirty about a cup of dust in the can. New Donaldson installed filterminder showing 11". Sooo relying on my 36 years of speriance in truck fixing says change it. But filterminder says it's ok. What say the court?

Flip side is that as air filters get dirty they protect your Engine better, because the particles that pass through keep getting smaller and smaller, therefore the filters effective filtration level becomes better at doing it's job protecting your engine. That said filter lasts longer and provides better engine protection vs slightly lower fuel milage and performance. No free lunches in real world. In the HVAC world filters effectiveness is rated at the 2/3  dirty level.

That is true a slightly dirty filter is more efficient. However there is a point where you go over that threshold. Just wondering if anyone pays any attention to the filterminder.

Bruce,

I do.  But high restriction is only ONE reason to change a filter.  Another is AGE, as the do degrade.  So, with high filter minder reading or every 3 years.

And NEVER remove a filter and try to clean and reuse it-- too easy to break a pleat and let dirt directly into the engine.

I know all this is second nature to you, but others less experiences will be reading this as well.

Yes, once a year, pull the hose off the engine intake end.

Suck on it-- it should peg the filter minder reading and retain that reading until you push the reset button. This shows that the gauge is working.

Push the reset button and reconnect hose.

When replacing the filter, always reset the filter minder.

Also a good idea to record the air filter minder reading after driving for a day or so (with at least one WOT at high RPM). That is your base line and you can monitor restriction as it rises.

IIRC the Donaldson blue tech filter is not the same as the P14-8043, maybe reverse air flow?

So you are telling me there is no correct Donaldson blue tech for the Foretravel air filter casing as installed on my coach?

Pittsburgh power shipped me two they said were correct.  Are you saying they are wrong?

Cellulose has much larger openings in the weave.  I use oiled specific foam only on the dirt bike motors I have built for the last 15 years.

Double the ring and cylinder wear to use anthying else.

Only do complete engines to study the wear issues.  Done over 250 engines.

I had a badly plugged std Donaldson when we bought the coach and a white glove inspection showed fine dust in the intake tract.

Several tests showing additional material removed by the blue tech.  Plus iits a performance mod on Pittsburgh powers web site for a m11.

Identical shape as the stock filter I removed.

?

P148043 shows 99.9 effeciency

Blue tech shows 99.99 same test

Donaldson shows the blue tech as an upgrade from the P148043)

If Donaldson says it is a upgrade it should work fine. They probably supplied the intake system components also.

As has been discussed in other threads, the DIRECTION OF AIR FLOW is critical in choosing the correct filter.

Some filters are designed with intake on the outside, clean air on the inside.  Some with air flow in the other direction.

Not all filters are bi-directional. So, while they may fit and look perfect, they are not "supported" with air flow opposite their designed direction.

Yes that is the blue tech filters I have.

Pittsburgh power mentioned a power increase and a significant reduction in pass through dust.

Also the blue tech was designed to be not affected by water contact which seems to be an issue on late GV'S where the intake location allowed water intrusion.

They also are guaranteed to last twice as long for fleet users.
