Door strike post

Many of my door problems lead back to the screen door which has a 1/4" bow in the middle of the vertical on the strike side. This prevents the entry door from fully closing and by the wear pattern is probably been that way forever.

 Can you remove the door strike post without the fear of the retaining nut falling off in the cavity?

I need to remove one washer and adjust it inboard a bit.

I don't know, but can you remove a piece of trim beside the door to access the nut on the back side of the striker post or maybe remove some metal from the screen door to keep it from hitting the post.

"Old", my screen door is probably identical to yours, seeing as it is same year and a GV.
The screen door is flimsy enough that I bent mine (very carefully I might add) back into the proper shape.
The main door strike bolt I merely loosened it enough to adjust the closed, latched position.
I did find that by lubricating the blazes out of the latch innards and the jaw pivots that the door now closes quietly and easily. I used dry silicone spray, both there and on the hinges.

Thanks red tractor based, on your info I grew some balls and gave it a twist. On my coach there appears to be a captured 3/8" bolt or stud, and the strike post has a female internal barrel thread so I soaked it with pent. Oil and will remove a washer tommorow. Inboard adjustment and door is working much better.

Thanks Nighthawk for the reply I was busy repairing during the time you posted. I am finding out the same thing as you experienced. After loosening the barrel bolt strike I can see that I can safely remove the washer without fear. Nothing worse than trying to remove something and all hell breaks loose because you assumed that the manufacturer anticipated it might possibly need to be removed in the future.

My striker post was adjusted in all the way, yet the door still closed kinda loose.  Further look showed that the door was only closing to the first stop of the latch . It has two. Pulled the striker post out and lubed the door latch, Nice .
 Thanks for the tip on the inside latch preventive  repair.  Gave it a smack  and lube.

Damm you old phart you need to get your eyes checked. Sorry for the misinformation, since I couldn't see the threads move and assumed a barrel thread. Wrong!!! Got if fully off today and there is a captured nut (unlike me) in the jamb. Spent an hour soaking, heating, and beating to try to get the shim washers off only to find out the 1/8" thick washer has a couple of threads in it. Had to break out the 18" channel locks to get the thick washer to break loose. After a couple of adjustment attempts to move the post inboard I could see the latch mechanizum was not fully going to the second cam position that fully surrounded the post. Moved the post outboard and eureka. Took the deadbolt to a locksmith to get rekeyed, as it appears to be a very good quality machined stainless steel unit as opposed to the Chinese junk. 20 bucks with 4 keys. I don't think the deadbolt was ever operable as the female plate is way off. Ask the locksmith about the safe the PO of 22 years had no idea it even had one, and he told bring it in, since it's open with the warranty card laying in bottom, and appearantly never used. Nitehawk if you could PM me your default combination that would be great.

For a good laugh search site for "in a pickle" haven't figured out how to link with my phone, and have no home computer. Not what you think, as I have been starring at computer screens for 8-9 hours a day for the last 30 years, and manage a CAD department.
