Haldex Maintenance Question

I replaced the Haldex air dryer last year about this time with a remanufactured one.

It is my understanding from reading a couple of different threads that the coalescing filter should be changed annually, and the entire
dryer replaced every three years.

Am I correct?

Probably good advice for an OTR truck that runs a lot of miles.

But service every three years is probably adequate for an RV application.

I agree, a FACTORY (i.e. the factory that made it-- Haldex in your case) reman is a good choice.  No problem after three years just changing the filters and then three years after that a factory reman.  That keeps valves, heater, etc a maximum of 6 years old.

Thanks Brett.

The (2) filters are almost as much money as a reman dryer.  Maybe I'll just change out the complete dryer every three years.

Ya, a good option. That way everything in the dryer is new except the housing.

Ours had never been replaced in 25 years until I changed to a spin on type last year. With the spin on type, you can change in 5 minutes most compared to a lengthy project with the OEM style. High humidity areas may require more frequent servicing.

With my bus and the fire trucks, there was no receiver/dryer. We just opened the drains on each tank each morning for a second.

My rebuilt bendix was only $60

Those say they are Meritor/Bendix STYLE (aka someone else's copy). Could be OK, but not where I would work to save a few bucks.  If the desiccant comes apart, every valve in the air suspension and air brake system are suspect.

Want to bet where it was made.

That site also has a link to another dryer filter labeled "Genuine".  Do not believe for a minute that it is Genuine Meritor or Bendix.  The manufacturer is "GVW"-- whoever that is.

Buyer beware.

All my German Meritor/Wabco aftermarkets are made next door in Poland. The quality looks the same and has worked well,

I have absolutely nothing against products made in other countries-- heck I ran foreign car dealerships for decades.

BUT, when "replaces" or "..XXX... style" parts are 50% of OE and they mask who made them or where (at least I have not heard of either of the companies in the links above) I will choose to NOT use them on critical items.

And, I would define critical as: A failure can cause serious damage and/or disable the vehicle.

Brett, agree wholeheartedly. Just making the point that you never know where things are made anymore.
Just bought some genuine expensive Cummins parts from Cummins directly, guess what, they were made in China!

Very familiar with east Asia produces-- especially sailboats.  Some where TERRIBLE quality.  Others, particularly those with outside QC/supervision were great.

Said another way, quality was all over the place. NOT want I want in a part that could cause high-dollar damage.

Your correct Brett, it was $76 at local truck parts place. Belts have been $15-25, filters between $9-15. D2 was less than $10. I gave the guy at the parts counter a whole list of parts, and he ask me for my account #, I told him I didn't have one, so I had to go to the accounts managers office which I thought was odd, to fill out paperwork, including some banking, addresses, phone numbers, etc questions. I think they think I have a repair business. Invoices have 2 prices for every part. Discount is pretty steep.
