Help Identify This Engine Part

1998 U-320 Cummins M11 Celect Plus 450 HP

Two pictures included.

First picture, need help confirming the part that is circled in red.  I think this is the air conditioner compressor.  Found a leak on one of the hoses coming from it.

Second picture is the leak - a green liquid.  The compression nut is tight, so either a crack developed or a compression ring/gasket gave way.

Thank you,
Chris

Yup, dash A/C compressor.

Check with shops that work on car/truck A/C's.  There are ends that can be installed on the existing hose.  Nothing special about it being a motorhome-- in fact easier to access parts than on a car.  Be sure to take pictures in so they know how easy it is to access.  Include picture from bedroom with bed up.

Brett,

Thank you for the confirmation.

Monday the coach is going into a shop that works on fire trucks, transit busses, etc. to address some other issues.  They've done a lot of engine work for us.  They love how open and easily accessible the engine and components are on these coaches.

Chris,

Not all shops have the parts/equipment to swedge new ends on existing hoses.  More A/C specialist than large vehicle specialist.

But, check with your shop-- they may do it, if not, could recommend a shop that specializes in A/C work.

The green stuff appears to be A/C leak detector additive.  If someone was trying to find a leak, hopefully this is it.  Its presence in the system suggests there may be or have been a leak issue.  Does the dash A/C actually work?

I believe there is an o-ring on that line. If the dye is coming up through the B-nut and there is not a hole in the line replace the O-ring. They are not the regular O-rings, they are green and can be bought as a kit at the auto supply stores or on-line.

Dont run your dash AC until the leak is fixed and recharged. Running the compressor for a length of time without refrigerant will burn out the compressor.

Foretravels have a low pressure switch on the dash ac system that will prevent compressor operation if freon level is too low.
