Anti freeze leak

WE just purchased a 1991 Gran Villa. After getting settled we noticed leaked antifreeze on the ground. Looks like leaking from front of motor (passenger side}? Totally new at this. Is there something specific I should check for? I hate the thought of taking it in somewhere the first month of owning it!

Check all of the clamps on the cooling hoses first. It may be an easy fix.

You did buy a 27 year old motorhome! It has been said over and over in the forum to be prepared to put up to 10k in one after purchase.
Check all hoses and clamps.

What engine do you have??  We have a 91 GV with a Cat 3208 engine and have had several leaks that needed fixing, but they wouldn't be pertinent to other engine types'.  Might try using a "black light"  to locate the leak.  Some coolants will show up very well under black light.  Besides hoses, thermostat housing and water pump are always suspect.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

RMK  ----  It would be very beneficial for you to get your machine over a pit and give it a good inspection.  You can see a lot of problems/potential problems from the bottom side that are just not visible any other way.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

For what it's is worth.  We have the Cat 3116 and have similar issue with slight anti freeze leak.  Discovered mine was coming out of the overflow reservoir.  I was traveling and then pulling into my spot at the end of the day and shutting down the engine.  The overflow reservoir was over flowing from the hot liquid as the engine cooled.  Started allowing the engine to idle for about 10 mins before shutting down and solved that problem.  Also noticed that it was more of an issue at altitude then sea level.  Might not be the case with your issue and you should give a good visual to be sure.  Of course it could have just been overfilled from the last fluid change but letting the engine run at idle for a few mins solved my issue.

Do what Jeff said and if you don't find the leak post again. No call for panic.

Perhaps park over some cardboard and then check right above where the drips are hitting the cardboard the next day. The little intake pipe to the pressure reservoir from the overflow reservoir was leaking on ours and I had to re-solder it. Lots of places to leak. Sometimes a bit of corrosion between the hose and the fitting can cause a small leak. Tightening the clamp may do the trick.

My waterpump leaks everytime it drops into the teens or colder. It has averaged about a gallon leaked out every winter... so I havent bothered fixing it. I just check it before I drive and add some if needed.

With such an old RV, I would recommend getting used to fixing stuff or taking it to someone and paying to get stuff fixed. Its a pretty normal thing for stuff to break, new or old. Just a fact of rv life.

Yup....If you have an RV, you have a problem, you just don't know what it is yet
