Hooking up another towed

As you know, we traded our Jeep Liberty for a 2015 Lincoln MKT. Today Tennessee RV installed the base plate and tomorrow an InvisiBrake dealer will install that. The installer (Bob) said that Blue Ox suggests that there be no more than 1.5" difference between the center of the receiver and the center of the bullets. A rough measurement shows about a 3" difference. Since we're on gravel, and not all that smooth gravel, it is possible that the difference may be +/- another inch.

How serious is this mismatch? When a Blue Ox dealer installed everything on the Jeep no one said anything about the angle, and I'm thinking that it was probably in the same range. We're going to move about 200 miles on Monday. Would it hurt to tow as is for that distance? I'd stop somewhere on solid ground and get accurate measurements. There is a CW reasonable close to where we will be should I need to drop the tow bars. Or I can just go get a drop receiver here.

Any suggestions?

Hi David, I sourced all of my parts and had TN RV install everything, including the baseplate,  AFO, and all the jeep connections. I saved some money that way but my goal was to have one place install the whole system to make sure it all worked correctly together. If it didn't, they would make it right. At least that was my train of thought. :+)

I had to buy a 4 inch drop hitch to make sure the tow height was within specs. TN RV had them in stock.

I'll be at TN RV next week, just missed you.

Edited to Add, I'd ask James about the drop hitch issue as long as you are there.

I am in the process of getting my toad hooked up also. The info I saw on the Blue Ox was that it needed to be within 3 inches above or 3 inches below level between the coach and the toad. These were MAX  DISTANCES.
Be sure that you measure the height of the coach AFTER you get it all pressured up and road ready. I measured mine sitting level  but without starting the engine and building up pressure and it made about 3 inches difference.
I am no expert so please double check my statements with others with more experience !!

The reason for using different shops is that I wasn't sure that the place that did the Jeep did the lights properly. I'm hoping that the InvisiBrake dealer tomorrow will have a better idea of what he is doing. Since it was going to take two days to do the work on the car anyway I decided to split the work.

John, that's my question. Do I need to get one now or can I wait until I'm all hooked up on a solid surface (not gravel) and see how much difference there is?

Hook it up on a level site and see how far it is out.  You can find those high/low adapters at any CW.  It may be close.  If you are within 3" you should be ok.
