Air dryer replacement?

My files show the Bendix AD-IP 065612 dryer is to be replaced or re-built every six years, but tell me nothing about mileage or area the coach operates. Anyone have a clue, or does it matter? I notice the new ones are spendy ($400/$475) a "re-man" is $130.00., but I wonder if it's a "bolt-on", or do parts have to come off the old one?  If I'm paying $100 hr. for parts and pieces to be moved around, am I in better shape with just a fresh one?

Someone should chime in on your model,I would guess there is some fitting or part you would need off the old one.

Yes, some of the "plumbing" will need to be changed.

But, a factory (i.e. Bendix factory) reman is a very good way to go, particularly if it had not been rebuilt since I installed it in April 2010.

No idea if the guy I sold it to had it serviced/rebuilt.

Nope. I see you were the last, on 4/2010. I've been left "holding the bag" on service needs. A good advice to prospective buyers would be to ask for paperwork on when the last full service was done, a good price dealing point, as well.

Ya, probably a good idea.

BUT, when I buy a coach, I like to fully service it so I know exactly where it stands.  Yes, more up front money, but fewer break downs and less money in the long run than letting things go until they break.

I have inspected a couple of coaches over the years where the desiccant filters in the air dryers broke down and there was white powder is the whole air system.  THAT is very expensive!

It's a catch 22 unless you've owned a FT (or like coach) and know what questions to ask of the PO. Herein is a great reason to have a coach inspected by someone who KNOWS these dears. Like you said, I'm starting over and still learning what needs to be done.  ^.^d

I'm getting ready to put a brand new  adsp drier on mine. I know it going to take a little work as far as the mount goes, and some different plumbing. Now if I could ever just get out there to do it. Another 9" of snow today.

Listen closely to Brett.  Service EVERYTHING that moves or is electrical.  Assume it bad till proven otherwise.

Brett the tech guy for the FMCA and Bob the old  Foretravel factory store sales manager.  Like Brett I am proactive not reactive.

Let my jinx myself and post I carry little spares and no tool box.

But I used to rebuild and build airplanes both big and little.

Only the overall build quality of a Foretravel allows this IMO.
