Problem with GV wiper system

Hello all.  95 U240.  Right wiper motor started binding/stopping in the middle of the windshield;  I could reach and "help" the linkage and it would resume for one cycle, then hang at the same place.  I removed the motor & replaced it with a new one from FOT.  Now the system went crazy:  right wiper works if left motor is unplugged from controller, left wiper works if right motor is unplugged.  But if both are connected the right wiper works while the left does one "sweep" then parks.  All the while the dash knob has no effect on action of wipers and won't shut off anything.
Haven't found this kind of issue addressed in the forum and wonder if anyone has dealt with similar trouble.  Maybe the Intellitec controller has somehow gone bad in this process?
Thanks for any advice.
(Reading this great forum has given me quite an education since I've acquired this older motorhome.)

Is it possible the wiper shaft is rusted or dirty where it passes through the bushing and causing the motor to bind?
At least on my Newells that was a problem that was easily fixed by cleaning the shaft.

There was no evident wear, rust etc in bushings, linkage or motor shaft.  (All of that has now been replaced with new).  Both wipers now work one at a time, depending on which one I plug into the controller - they just won't work together at the same time when both are connected to the controller, and they won't respond to the dash knob for speed control or shut off.  They shut off only when engine is turned off with ignition key.
Thanks for your suggestions.
