Roof vent and availability

Got on top of the coach today to measure something and noticed this roof vent has issues. It appears to be over the refrigerator.. what would I look for or what would it be called to search for...  Does anyone know if it is available and if so where I could find one?

refrigerator vent cover.. you will need the base also. Camping world had the top but not the base without ordering it...

Got the vent including the base a few years ago from MOT. Would assume they are still available.

The new style Dometic vent and base are little different.  They must be mounted in a set, but other than that they should fit.

This cover fit on the base that was on my 2001 over the refrigerator and the one over the microwave.  The 2000 may be different.

If you need a base, I got a new old stock one from Foretravel a few mos ago. That way all the mounting screw holes lined up.

We have replaced a couple of those.  The plastic of the cap as well as the base were quite fragile so we replaced the base as well as the cap.  Not hard to do.  Make sure you use the plywood mounting screws on the base as the others do not penetrate the surface of the top.

Thanks Bruce, but the top looked pretty fragile to so I ordered the whole thing. There is such a thing as plywood mounting screws? I'll look at and match the screws that come out of the old one. Just another thing to do before vacation at the end of July.....

Clean up the area where the old base was as best you can.  The screws you take out are probably #8x3/4". It is possible they are #6 (smaller) Maybe 1/4" hex drive.  I am pretty sure there is an aluminum roof frame (1-1/2" square tube) around these openings so your screws will go into that.  You can reuse the original screws or get new ones.  I would use stainless steel #8 x 3/4".  If the original screws are longer use whatever length they were.  Phillips drive are going to be the most common for new screws.  Square drive is fine too.  I hope you have a screw gun or impact driver, there are a lot of screws.  You can predrill for the screws if you want,  use a drill bit no larger than the solid part of the screw where the threads are.  If any of the holes in the base line up with the old screws holes and the new screws won't tighten up use a next size screw.  Drive the screws in snug, don't over tighten them and strip them out.  Do the corners then a mid point along the long side and then the rest.

Position the vent base and put some painters tape around it before you caulk. Use a pencil and mark several holes.  When you caulk you will know where to caulk and it will help with clean up.  Use plenty of caulk.  Try and force a bit in all of the existing holes.  Put two 1/4"+ lines of caulk down, one where the screws go and one inside of that line.  When you press the base into place a bit of caulk will come up through the holes and seal up the screws.  You don't want to squeeze all the caulk out so snug the screws up and clean off any excess around the edges.  If you can let it set up overnight then you can tighten all the screws a bit more.  Some folks put a dab of caulk on each screw head to cover it up and another small bead around the roof/base edge as a final seal.  The 3M caulk will set up in less than a day.  Dicor and some other caulks take longer.  M1 caulk is good as well.  The 3M 4000 is UV reaistant.
