"LEVEL SYSTEM" light on dashboard & dinging alarm

Got a question for you all. Thought this was fixed twice but now it's back a third time. Here is the timeline:

April 28 - Finalized purchase of coach, "LEVEL SYSTEM" light was on on dashboard (& alarm was dinging), but coach was at travel height, slides in and locked, safe to drive, so we drove it ~200 miles home with no problems. (Green "travel" indicator on HWH pad never lit)

Late May (Fix #1) - Had a tech check it out, he said the rear slide room sensor was "not wired right" and fixed it, this did fix the alarm!! (Green "travel" indicator lit) But only for the ~30 minute drive back to my storage facility. By the time we reached the facility, the alarm was back on! Upon exiting the coach, I noticed a very loud hissing sound - one of the airbags had a large visible hole in it (due to wear & age).

Early June (Fix #2) - Had a mobile mechanic visit to help install a new air bag. Installed the new air bag, fixed the leak! Late at night so I didn't have a chance to test see if that solved the alarm.

June 26 - Took the coach out for the first time after the air bag replacement. Working on some unrelated interior projects. No alarm!! All worked perfectly for the first drive! (Green "Travel" indicator lit, no alarm) So the air bag replacement did work. (?)
During the interior work we were doing, I needed to extend the front slide a bit to access part of the dinette. Here's what I did:
-Started the coach, ensured it was level and window open
-Turned the slide key, waited until bladder deflated, control panel indicated ready
-Extended the slide about halfway
-Completed the work I needed to do to the dinette
-Brought the slide back in, turned off slide key, turned off coach
Upon finishing the work, then starting the coach for the trip back to our storage facility, that "LEVEL SYSTEM" light was back on, alarm was on, and I could not get the Green "Travel" indicator to light up on the HWH pad! I tried restarting the coach, using the "HWH Reset" switch, and using the "raise" button, then clicking back to "travel" mode. Nothing worked. (though again, the coach is visually at travel height and seemed safe to drive)

Any ideas here? I am thinking that my partial-extend of the slide may have been a problem?? I am going to go out tomorrow and FULLY extend the slide, then bring it back in - see if that fixes it. Let me know if you all have any other ideas. Thanks!

(PS - don't worry I am going to have all 8 airbags changed  :) )

My bet is this will solve your problem. If not, after extending and retracting the slide  try the "HWH Reset" switch once again, then hit travel once again.

full extend and full retract of slide highly likely to fix issue  if it doesn't do it first time - do it a second time - then try HWH reset if that fails

when you extend and retract the slide keep the retract button pushed for  a good while to make sure it is in all the way and locked. I had that problem and it was just that one of the slide pins was not locked..

good luck

Thanks! I was under the impression that holding the "retract" button for too long after the slide stopped moving could damage the system? Or is that incorrect?

About how many seconds do you recommend keeping the button depressed after the slide is fully in?

I held it in for just a few seconds, you could hear the hydraulics getting tight and the light went off.. when my light was on the transmission would not go into gear, that was before I knew about the bypass. this happened to me in my driveway and the slide had not been out. I slid out and back in giving those extra seconds to ensure the slide was all the way in

A couple of things.

1.  It is my understanding that it is not a good thing to move the slide partially in one direction and then reverse.  I know that I and FOT on my brother's coach managed managed to poke a pin through the bottom or top of the slide instead of into the pin hole.  I now make sure I fully extend or retract when ever I move the slide.

2.  Sounds like you may have a lock sensor out of alignment.  There are indicator lights on the HWH boxes in the bay that will tell you tell which sensor is not latching.  I have had to adjust or replace a couple of mine.  Do you have the HWH troubleshooting manual?  If not, PM me and I will try to post a copy.

3.  I hold my button down until the light goes off and you can hear the pump stop.

What is your build number?

On mine you are suppose to hold the retract button until it comes in and shuts off itself.. You can hear the pins lock and activate just before the light goes out and the system shuts off..

What lights do you look for to see if sensors are out of alignment on the HWH? I think mine are out.. light is never on anymore and had to bypass a while back.. used to go off after I drove a little bit but hasnt gone off (the light) for a while.. next project after the last next project..

Uh oh, the "poke through the slide" comment sounds bad. How would I know if I have done that - would it be obvious?

No I do not have the troubleshooting manual and would appreciate any help there! I also understand there is an HWH box somewhere that I can see lights indicating which areas are not locked?

I'll try the "hold the button" technique when I go out there today.

Don't have my build number here at the house but I'll post it later today when I'm with the coach.

question: did the tech ever check the travel mode solenoid?  I had alternating lights going at the same time, green travel light & yellow leveling lights, but was able to maintain air pressure & keep going....did this for about 50 miles, (went at a moderate speed & maintained phone contact with my FT guru!) 'til I got to where the tech could change out the solenoid....perhaps this isn't related, but it was an interesting experience & even if a long shot, might be good to check....OK, I will now defer back to the ~Better Brains~ on the forum!

Thanks everyone for the advice!

Yes - the "hold the button down until light turns off" fixed the problem! This forum is so great!

This actually does bring up a follow-up question though, did my repair shop "fix" something on the rear slide incorrectly. I see exposed wires running across the top of the rear slide. I'll take a photo and post it here.

All wires should be attached to something I would think.. trim on my rear slide hides any wires so they can not be seen at all

Those go to the lights I believe in the closet.. Ok to move around a little as long as they are not pinched.. and dont slide under the bladder as it opens

Eric,

You are pretty close to my build number.  Attached is the HWH leveling manual for mine.  I can't seem to get the slide room manual to post.  I'll keep trying.

You can look at the top and bottom and if you see a hole other than the pin holes, you'll know it.  I covered mine with Etrnabond tape until I could get it repaired.  I was at HWH shortly after it happened and they suggested using a bunch of white silicone caulk as a temp fix.

The HWH manual will have pictures of the lights.  They are LEDs located in one of the boxes in the basement.  They are hard to see but with a little perseverance you'll be able to figure them out.
