Re: C 8.3 Coolant Pump Part #

Hello Jerry, I've never been sold a bad part before from NAPA prior to just changing two months ago all fluids, filters, belts, misc. hoses, tensioners, water pump, radiator cap, fuel solenoid, and lift pump as preventative measure before a 2,500 mile round trip to LAX and back to Portland and down to Eugene, OR. with my newly acquired U295. The fuel solenoid kit, the lift pump, and the OAT "lifetime" coolant, I bought from Cummins, all the rest of the parts were from NAPA. The tensioners were bouncing pretty bad at idle and I knew all needed to be changed. Got home from trip and noticed allot of sediment by weep hole (lost about 5 inches of coolant in overflow bottle) coming from the new replacement Napa pump. NAPA here is exceptional, they apologized, and exchanged the pump. This replacement pump was identical to the one that leaked, decided to return it for a refund before installing, and buy the Cummins pump instead for my own crazy peace of mind, installed myself, approx same cost. Previously (1992 Signature) on another Cummins 6C8.3 had worn water pump causing fraying of two newly installed Napa XL Green Stripe serpentine belts (in less than 200 miles). Had local reputable shop take belt off, check water pump and alignment and plane of belt on all surfaces, they said all was ok. Even after paying for this inspection at a respected local diesel truck repair shop, I listened to my trusty tech who said he would still "replace the water pump". I did so, and no fraying of new belt. His experience I will always value.
