Deal On Thomas TA 4101DC Major Rebuild Kit

I just ordered the Thomas TA 4101DC major rebuild kit from Zoro and with a promo code that saved me 20% my total was $248.32.  $22.06 of that was state sales tax as they have a warehouse here in Tennessee.  As luck would have it today (06-28) is the last day for that promo code, but maybe another one will replace it for you folks.

CFP (Combined Fluid Products) price is $405.65 with a 4-week ship time.  Zoro may ship mine today, or at the latest tomorrow.

Interesting finding. I just got off the phone with Thomas technical service department who told me that the full rebuild kit for my compressor (2002 U320, build number 5957) is a Thomas TA-4101-DC-X is: C87865-P (compressor model #980420 is on my pump label too);  and not C87866-P as provided in a late June forum posting. The stroke of the correct piston is longer for my model than the standard TA-4101 DC compressor.  Sadly the price for the correct compressor kit for me is substantially higher and the discount is no longer available from Zoro.com.

Perhaps the ...66-P number kit is for another model Thomas compressor that other members may have. You can refer to the Thomas rebuild kits in Beam Alarm site showing theThompson chart to noting the "X" suffix is not shown - hence my phone call to Thomas. The "X" suffix in my pump number stands for a proprietary model compressor - in this case for use by Foretravel.

Ignore the word "is" in the first sentence of my posting and note my coach is a "2002" 320.

Jim, get the C87866-P kit and use your old connecting rod with the new bearings and wrist-pin pressed in.

I'm going to take mine apart and mic everything to see if that's what I need to do..................even though it appears and sounds
like it's working O.K.

Did the tech rep say that both the piston and connecting rod are sized differently per kit, or just the rod?

T-Man,

That sounds like a reasonable work around. I didn't ask the Thompson tech about that though reusing the rod may not be as good as new when taking the time to do total rebuild. I bought the kit to be prepared should/when mine dies. So far, so good but it does run a lot for the demand it has and gets very hot. Thanks for the suggestion.

I can't believe the old rod isn't like new.  They package them so the rebuilder doesn't have to have a shop press, plus they are more costly (marketing).

As soon as I get a chance I'll tear mine down and mic the pistons and rods (I saved the old ones) and report back Jim.

Jim,
I  just took my compressor apart,  mic'd both sets of pistons and rods and they are identical in all dimensions.  So I called a Thomas tech rep and asked what the difference is between the C87865-P and the C87866-P kits.  The answer I got is that one is for the AC model and one is for the DC model, but either should work on my TA4101-DC-X.

A head-scratcher for sure, but the micrometer tells the tale.

Here's a link to an immediate 15% coupon..............and maybe more.

Oh my, the guy I talked to at Thomas said the ...66P would not work and that I eeded the ...65P.

I have pump # TA-4101-DC-X with mgf mgf #  980420.  What does your label say? Jim

Mine says the same Jim.....................exactly the same as yours.  I just put mine back together and it ran fine until it reached pressure, then shut off.

Buy the C87866-P kit from Zoro.com with a coupon, match it up with your old one and if they're not identical then simply return it.

T-Man,

The previous discount was 25% I was told, so when returned the ...66P and ordered the replacement "correct" kit, at least they gave me that same discount. You watch when fiinally I use my kit, something will be wrong with it (sour grapes or Murphy's Law). Stranger things have happened.

I presume that discount schedule leaves the manufacture with only 100% profit.
