New Cameras and Monitor

My new cameras and monitor will be here Wednesday from RV Cams so I can start updating my camera system.

My problem is that my Javelina monitor is only 4.5" x 3.5" and I am going with a 7" quad monitor as I am adding side cameras too.  So I am going to mount my monitor overhead under the TV cabinet.

I was wondering what is the best route to run the existing cable to the overhead behind the TV?

Has anyone done something like this?

You can run it up the channel where the thermostat is or you can run the wire up just to the rear of the windshield, by removing the trim piece.

Thanks I will probably try the windshield post then as he is sending a 6' extension cable.

I am going to leave the Javelina monitor to just read the systems information.

The side cameras can wait a while while I figure out where to put them so I can get the wires for them run.  I am thinking about just under the floor level aft of the door location on both sides, then run them up the same place I as do the rear cam cable.

Really love having the blind spot cams. Definitely a favorite upgrade. Mounted on both sides below windshield wrap around  area.  Catch a little glare in cam from side turn signal blink, but enough to be a problem. Removed javelina and put in SeeLevel II, mounted in cabinet over entry door. No regrets.

Thanks jhardman, I had not thought about in front of the door, that would give a bit more of a field of view, I will look at it tomorrow when I go out.  I am doing a fast fill mod on the water tomorrow.

Some more questions,

I take it that the black wire that goes into the white connector plug is the old camera wire?  it is the only wire with a braided shield around it and both the wire and braided ground go into the plug.

How can i remove it from the connector or do I just cut it off

How is the trim piece attached that goes up the the post of the windshield?

Trim piece - On mine, there are screws on the forward facing edge. 

I'm not sure 6' of cable will be enough unless you mount the monitor well to the left of the driver's position.

Not sure how big your monitor is but I put mine over the old monitor hole using velcro,works and looks fine,is not flush sticks out

Thanks Rich, there is about another 2 feet of cable stuffed back in the center console thing that should let me get it to the street side wall so all i have to do is to go up and over a bit.

Thanks John, a 7 inch wont clear because there are 2 12 v outlets to the right side and I am going to use the old screen to view the tanks and voltage still

Steve, I have my rear camera hooked into the switch, so middle is rear, up is tanks and down is direction..temp etc.
It was easy to hook up..

My side monitors sit at 10 and 2  at the dash.. these are constantly on.

The systems that I have installed from RV Cams have both the camera and the tanks hooked to the monitor, no need to have separate monitors.

The one I got only has 3 imputs, then I can leave the original just set to monitor the tanks and batteries all the time.

Steve, yes you will need the lead from the orginal monitor as one input the toggle controls the feed, so that input is your rear camera and your system monitors.. ^.^d

For your reading enjoyment here is what I did when the original monitor died.
I placed a 7" monitor over the old monitor opening. Yes, it sits on the face of the dash. Has not been a problem. I then installed a SeaLevel ll tank monitoring system - GREAT system. I placed it on the bulk head in front of the passenger sea between the air vents. I didn't go for the side monitors probably due to my extreme caution on side menuvers but may try it down the road.
Thought, be cautious on where you place the monitor where head movement might keep your eyes off the road to long or the sun might interfere with viewing or extend the time before you recognize what you are looking for.

Thanks Dr. Dee, I will keep that in mind when I go out tomorrow and play with different places to put it.

my old monitor is only 4.5"x 3.5" and there is not enough room between the knobs and the power sockets.  I sent pictures to Tim at RV Cams and he has never seen this monitor setup as there is not a plug in on the back side, just a 15 pin connector.  There is a coax attached to the 15 pin connector and the twist plugs are on the other end of the cable hooked into a box inside the of the hump thing.  they have never seen this setup.

so when I get the cam mounted on the rear it will be a hunt and test to see where the other end of the rear cam cable is.
