Scott & Carol,
Take a look at the link below, may help you make a decision.  Where are you parked these days?

Then search: 3M Marine Adhesive and Sealant Chart if necessary.

Thanks John -

We are enjoying Dave C's place, at Buckhorn Lakes RV in Kerrville, for a few more days until we move to Magnolia, TX for a few months.

This one looks like it will fit the bill:

3M™ Marine Adhesive/Sealant 4000 UV has superior UV resistance properties that make this an ideal cosmetic sealant. It is a one-part sealant that cures to form a firm, rubbery waterproof seal. Its flexibility allows for the dissipation of stress caused by shock, vibration, swelling or shrinking.

Scott, the 3M 4000 UV will work well. It sets up pretty fast so dust and dirt won't adhere to it.    If you want to be really tidy put tape on either side of the joint, maybe 1/8" or less. Apply a small bead of caulk, use you finger to smooth it out and then remove the tape.

Scott, I used 3M 4000 a couple of years ago didn't work well for me. Gave up trying to keep it clean, looks about as bad as what I took off. 3M 5200 works better buttt, it's pretty well permanent, don't know if I would use it on FBP. I did my cap seems on top with it 5 years ago still looks like new.

I have never tried the clear stuff Bob suggests.  It might be nice where there is paint.  Silicone would be a disaster.  The best solution (not at all easy) would be to take off the trim, clean everything up, us the 3M 4000 in every screw hole and behind the trim piece, screw it back in place and then clean up what excess squeezes out.

John H always has ideas about doing this.  I followed his guidance redoing my front and rear caps strips.  Starting around 2001 the screws in the horizontal waist cap strip are covered by a plastic cover strip on the aluminum strip.  Some areas are painted and the strip feels very stiff and maybe easily broken.  I have a couple areas like Scott does.  I might do a test strip with Bob's clear goo to see how it works

My experience as well.  The 3M 4000 has turned gooey, very unlike 5200.  Won't use it again.

Scott, you could make that stress crack look real purdy by using a white latex caulk and your little finger.  If you're not happy with it for any reason it can be replaced somewhat easily.

I've had real good results with Big Stretch on different projects and it comes in about fourteen different colors.

Scott,

I'd make a call to Mr. Urethane aka Mr. Speers. He's my goto for all things caulk.
