Danger-engine access door

I had stepped away from inspecting the engine on my 295, and went in to grab a cup of coffee, enjoying fall blowing in.

While inside I heard a loud bang!  What the heck?

Outside I saw the engine door had swung down with great force.  Apparently a gust of wind caught the upper edge, moved it off its detents and allowed it to drop.  I was real glad I wasn't mucking around in the engine bay when that happened, and double glad I wasn't doing it while the engine was running.  Could be disastrous.  Be careful.

I'm going to work up some kind of auxiliary restraint and use it.  Has anyone come up with something nifty?

Chuck,

Barry of Barry & Cindy has a gismo that he posted about.

I think this is the thread that shows what he did before his rear door mod. Engine Door Safety

Thanks Mike.  Barry and Cindy's mod looks good.

I never have trusted that rear door.  I use a ripped 2x4, just long enough to fit above the hydraulic reservoir tank and angled down to the pax side brackets for the rear skin when stored.  This length has fit most occasions; using the top of the license plate recess to hold the door.  Only precaution I have is to make certain that the airbags are happy with the current level position before inserting the stick.
