Curb Damage

While coming home this afternoon in the rain...3 blocks from home....I was at a 4 way stop and the cars to my right refused to leave me enough room to make the turn w/o running the back wheels over the curb. Like an idiot I let the wheels go over the curb , not realizing that behind the curb was a hole.....so when the wheel dropped it did damage....a lot of damage! It looks like it probably pushed the battery and radiator mount up causing the fiberglass to push out and crack... I am afraid to force open the battery compartment to get a good look because I think I would never get it closed again. Makes me sick to my stomach to look at it! After so much work to do something so stupid!.....So moving forward... Where would you take  it for repairs? Extreme? FOT?  I am in Houston, any recommendations in town or bite the bullet and go to Nac?

Karl..I would try to open the door...from what I see it maybe the rivets on the hinge have pulled out and shoved the door up....when open you can see the reall extend of damage.

Karl I was taught to take all the room I need to make a turn. I have pulled right in front of cars that would not leave me enough space to make the turn and stayed there until they backed up and yes the light cycled through before they backed up.

Xtreme.  Send them lots of clear pictures and they'll probably give you an estimate and put you on the calendar.  Might have to wait 6 weeks or so, depending on current workload.  Hopefully it's covered by insurance because that's not going to be a cheap fix.

Only Xtreme, call right away, they are busy. They (Rance) are the best, but others can also fix stuff.

Sent pictures this morning and have not heard back with an estimate yet...They said probably early next year before they could get to it. Man I hate to wait that long!

Upon further inspection....the good news is that it did not hit the battery or radiator support.. It looks like it only pushed up the metal piece that holds the door and weather strip on...and of course fiberglass and paint...and decals that are no longer made....

Karl, I did the same thing, not once but twice.  Actually, I ran it over a curb and then through a ditch, but similar damage.  I have yet to fix it for the second time but will when I get back to Tx.

It's not as bad as it looks.  The compartment door is an easy repair (with the exception of the decal which is living on borrowed time anyway).  It basically hangs from the belt course trim which is bent up.  Remove the trim, remove the door, remove and replace the hinge, repair the door rash, install with a new piece of belt trim readily available at minimal cost from Foretravel.  Before installing new belt course, seal old screw holes, drill new ones.  Caulk belt course.

While the belt course is off, remove the fender.  Grind and patch on the inside, and out.  Shoot with gelcoat or paint.  Reinstall.

I doubt radiator and battery mount are affected.  This looks like fiberglass damage.  Any competent fiberglass tech can repair it, especially if you remove the parts and take to their shop.  I seriously doubt the radiator or battery supports were affected.

Yes, Xtreme can fix it and if your insurance will cover it that's the easy way to go.  I'm just presenting a workable alternative.

Thanks Chuck!  I just might give that a try. I need to use it this weekend and then not again for 3 weeks. I emailed RV Stripes and Graphics and it does not seem like a problem to get new graphics made. Extreme is saying it will be next year before they can get to it. I really hate to wait that long. I could strip all of the decals, get the fiberglass repaired and get put back together relatively quick I think. Thanks for the advice!

Karl, I hit a bridge support early in my rv driving career turning too tight on a ramp. It was $16k to fix, ...thanks State Farm. Lost part of my manhood too. Bad day. After that took a 2-day driving school. Cannot happen again...
