I am doing it for the safety factor for my DW the original step is fine for me, but it is narrow compared to the 42 series. Coming down without having to turn around backwards to hold the handle as my DW must do now is why the change out.

I had considered this issue before going ahead with this mod. There is ¾" ply over 1 ½" square steel tube frame at the bottom of the step well that eliminates the possibility of having the Kwikee steps any higher. I was concerned about the 2" "mini-step" before the top of the Kwikee, but it became unnoticeable within a day or so. No problem entering or leaving steep driveways so far, though I am very careful when faced with that situation.  There have been a few times that I raised the front or even the whole coach using the HWH System as a precaution.

Good question, I believe if it could be mounted with the bottom flush, eXtreme would have done so. When I get home it will be waiting for me and I will know for sure. The height of the step might be the issue as it can only mount as high as the bottom of the floor of the coach at that point.

We find the odd spacing of the current steps to be a real accident waiting to happen.  We are having ours mod'd at Xtreme in about 3 weeks.

FYI - the second step shown by Don with the fold down first step (Camping World link) doesn't seem to really exist.  The lack of slide rails on the first step was really appealing to us, so I tried to find one.  Don't know where Camping World (and PPL and several others) got the picture but Lippert doesn't admit it they have one that is any different than the one Don and Roger installed.

Yeah I looked into that, they are the same part number, just different pricing.
Craneman, where did you get yours from ?
Please document the install for us that would like to have that, but don't want to pay someone else to do it.....

It was cheaper from CW with no shipping than at PPL $95.00 shipping. It should be at my house by now and I will get there late Sat.

Joe, the extra step and that they extend out more just makes the in and out process easier and safer.  Our average age is over 70 and anything we can do to reduce risk of falls is worth doing.  We knew three who missed the small step mostly on the way out and were injured, two with broken bones.

It is a choice for anyone who does it.  Like almost any of these discretionary choices do it because it improves your safety, accessibility and confidence using your coach.

Maybe the OP or a moderator could separate this into two threads, second part seems to be focused on "entrance step modification" it would make it easier to find this info in a future search.  Just sayin'
