8.3 Mechanical WATER PUMP

Just throwing this out there,talked to Larry about the coach he has for sale,he told me the water pump had been changed and
that the impeller on the old one was worn to a point that in comparing new and old you could tell the difference.Think is was
somewhere around 150k miles.Since I am able to change the pump myself I'm thinking of changing out the pump as our coach
has 230k and looks like the original pump,it's not running hot.Anyone else have this expierience?

If you have the facilities to conveniently do the swap, and the timing is good for you, why not change it?  I like preventative maintenance.

Old is old and high mileage means high usage. I vote for preventive maintenance. ^.^d

I would probably wait until time for the next coolant/thermostat change/replacement.

Said another way, do it along with a complete cooling system PM. Timing up to you.

When changing that waterpump be sure and recheck and retighten the bolt that secures the alternator bracket.  It tends to loosen and wallow out the pump casting.

On the original pump casting, it will say made in england.  Yes, as preventive measure I would replace it along with coolent, thermostat, belts and tentioners.  That said, you asked for my experience, you might check out a previous post of mine on this.  I replaced mine as preventative maintance right before a 2,500 mile trip with a NAPA water pump, a month later, 2,500 miles, it leaked.  This time I went back and got a "Cummins" pump from Cummins.  A year later now, it is leaking also out the weep hole.  Most likely this time I will go back to NAPA, as I may be slightly over 1 year and 500 miles on the latest one.  This will be of course after I talk to Cummins if they choose not to replace mine from 1 yr ago.

Replaced mine a couple months ago just do to age. Easiest water pump change out that I have ever done. (Thanks CM Fore for the easy access)

I used this one from US Motor Works.  Looked exactly like the OEM
