Jackknife sofa

I am tired of the flex steel jackknife sofa in my U295.  It needs to be re upholstered and to me the cost is way more than I want to spend.  Are there any options beside a sleeper sofa that will work?  I don't need a sleeper sofa as it is only me and my wife who travel.  I do understand that there are two furnace vents which must be addressed in a swap out.  Any ideas appreciated.
Cheers,
Terry

Some have replaced with two chairs (ekornes or similar) I put in pull out queen sleeper sofa to replace jackknife couch. Only works with slide out coaches

I think you could put two chairs over on that side even without a slide. The older GVs have a sofa on one side and chairs on the other in many floor plans.

I have talked about replacing the sofa with chairs but Susan likes the opportunity for a nap on occasion.

Terry we are in the midst of remodeling front of coach replacing carpet with PVC  laminate that has cork bottom, taking couch out and replacing with a duel recliner loveseat, moving tv from front to passenger side of coach in a elevator cabinet.  Wife wanted to leave the J dinette set.  I've also taken the Bose surround sound out if anyone is interested.  There is just the 2 of us and if grandchild does go there will only be one at a time.  So the work goes on!

We have 1994 36 ft Grandvilla with furnace and large (and convienent) storage drawer under the jack knifesofa. Would like to update the sofa. Looking for suggestions. Is it possible to purchase a replacement jack knife sofa that would fit on existing frame?  Appreciate suggestions

I too thought of doing that but in the end chose to have the jackknife sofa reupholstered. That and the 2 dining chairs are costing $900 with me supplying the ultraleather, which I had a roll of for a boat project never completed. Not done yet so can't tell what it will look like, but to me having a sofa there to take a nap or to have a few friends over for snacks is worth having it. Also having a 2nd bed is nice as well.
On ours under there is a aqua hot heater core with hoses, a middle drawer ( getting rid of the sofa means less storage) and the bose sub. While I may get rid of the bose system at some point, at this time I will keep it. To me, with the limited floor space it makes sense. And with 2 captains chairs and a recliner, 2 more chairs just seems like to much. One thing I thought about is instead of a traditional recliner, get a massage chair. That would be sweet after a days hike, or drive. Might still do it.  Pic is of the jackknife sofa base in, but the end off and cushion out for upholstering. Lots of space under there.

Bob, have you laid down on your jack-knife-sofa?  our sofa on the seat part is about 4 inches shallower than normal sofa, so when I laid down on it one arm was hanging off ( I,m not that big 5'10" 200 lb) but DW was even complaining  of seat being shallow so we have opted to replace  the couch with a duel loveseat recliner.  Your seat may be normal size but ours was small.
Just my thought

Chris, don't remember laying down on it except when it was opened up and then I thought only for 1 of my kids (they grow them big in my family). My issue with it is the length. Not quite 6 feet, and I am 6'1" tall...  but to make room for a longer couch I would have to remove a 3 drawer cabinet. And would hate to do so at the present time.
Send a pic when your done. Would love to see it.

Thanks for the pics, now I understand why there is a small drawer there...LOL. looks like we'll do an easy upholstery job, instead of replacement.

Thanks, Paul

Question for everyone - what are the pros and cons of replacing the stock RV sofa (flexsteel?) with a residential sofa?

Any impact on crash safety? (Seatbelts are secured to the floor of course, not the sofa)

Eric I am new to this stuff BUT... after pulling my jackknife sofa out I have a opinion on it so here it is.
I would not put in a residential sofa in a rv. The jack is well secured and not sure how you would do that in a rv. The thought of that flying towards my head in a crash is not to pleasant a thought. Besides you would lose the storage space and the heater vents there.. But if you could figure out that part it might work. I would still go with a unit built for a class A.

I'm curious how that works in the 25 inch slide platform? We wanted more traditional (Non RV) sofa for the slide, we have a 295 and i've taken out the dinette and jacknife sofa looking for ideas! Please send pics if you can!

Thanks, Paul

Paul I"ll try to send some pictures,  We did 2 recliners with console would probably take up about the same room
I fixed the vent to blow under the recliners and took the speaker out
The Couch and dinette table are now gone --I'm in the process of building a new table facing the bar/kitchen sink
