I have used them on several 12v projects. Material shrinks as expected and the solder melts at/just before the heat shrink does it's thing. Connection is tight and so far so good. I did take an old desk lamp, cut the wire, reassembled with these connectors and sprayed with water as a test. Waterproof, at least for that one.

I have used several types of heat shrink solider connections. For the solider to work well the wires need to be fairly clean/shiny. Some are crimp, then heat shrink/solider. These are easier because you do not have to hold the wires together while you apply the heat.  But they work well in the right situation.

I usually use heat shrink tubing for the water proofing, but this would save a step and avoid the crimpers.  There are several brands that are similar.

Went to the Amazon affiliate site from here and found multiple vendors with similar items. The NEC from above has 100 for $32.78. On Amazon one from Koniota had 120 for $19.99 as well as one from Haraqi had 120 for $19.99. The difference was the number of red, white or blue joints. So depending on which size you would use the more of, the one you would choose. I have no affiliation with any of these, but once I saw the original post, I was amazed. I will order a set from Amazon, (cheaper and the forum gets a small stipend). Will report once I use some.

These are probably fine where you have easy access or lots of excess wire.  I tend not to get a set of various size connectors, pretty soon you will have half or more of the sizes you will never use and the price each for the ones you did use just went way up.

My go to connectors are long neck crimp caps.  Most of your inside wiring connections were done this way at the factory. Lots of room for long stripped ends, two or more wires in the crimp cap held in a crimper with one hand and a single crimp. If you want waterproofing add a bit of dielectric grease.  If you want to get out a heat gun and have roome to work use a bit of adhesive lined heat shrink when needed.

Lots of crimp cap sizes available.  $2.71 for 100 for 14/16 ga wire.

1/2" Ancor heat shrink tubing, about as good as it gets.  3/8" is actually more expensive.

Lots of ways to do everything.

Check these out, 2, 3, 4 and 5 wire connectors, lock in place.  Unlockable and reusable.  Solid or stranded wire.  Much more compact in a tight box where you need to connect multiple wires.  Great in the coach too for multiple common grounds or changing from lights in series to lights in parallel (less voltage loss, easier on some LED lights)

I used this type of connector when repairing engine fire damage on my coach. I needed to splice the main harness at the rear axle and did not want to get the bundle too large as a result of the splices. I staggered the splices and kept the bundle about the same diameter as original. Be careful with the heat as too much melts the shrink slave when the solder melts. Practice makes perfect and a very nice repair.
