Cabinet strut sticker shock!

Spending a few days here at FOT and picking up some parts. On our first trip here 5 1/2 years ago, I bought 30 some cabinet struts and they were about nine dollars apiece and then a motorcade discount on top of that. I went to the parts counter here the other day and was shocked to find that they were  $12.85 apiece! Saved a buck and a quarter with a motorcade discount, but still pricey  considering  our coach has 30 something of them.  So I just bought a dozen... Yesterday, remembering that I needed some compartment struts I went into parts with some trepidation and inquired as to the price of these much larger units. I was almost as equally shocked to discover that they were only a couple dollars more!

It is a bit of a strange curve. Double or more oil and metal bits in a large strut and price only increases a bit.

Yet in the world of incredibly overpriced nitnoid minor bits that makes up a coach. (like 1K for a shift pad with 6 soft touch switches) $12 for a strut is actually pretty reasonable. Esp. given they are easy to R&R and last a while and won't have you at the side of the road should they cease working.

Hooray for tambour doors!  LOL  ;)

We DO have a few doors with struts, however.  I think I paid about $9 for them back in 2012 from Encore on sale.  That price didn't work out to well for them, I guess.  $12 sounds reasonable, but yes, ouch.

I bought struts a month ago while at FT.Bought them right after pricing the engine bay insulation @ 12.00 per sq ft so the struts seemed to hurt less. I passed on the insulation.. just more than I wanted to invest. I'm putting up some material that I paid 12.00 a sq yard for. May regret it but I bet I've had greater regrets in my life. I'm used to sticker shock being in the trucking business for decades but there are times I just back up especially when an option presents itself.
