Is the roof painted?

Before I go crazy using my new buffer, the question is if the roof is gel coat or just painted?

That all depends on what the previous owners did or did not do to it.
It was gel originally

Do not believe they did much looking at the coach, appears it's all original to a fault, just had maintenance done, so I would assume it's gel coat
I did not want to use the wrong pads etc on it. A great place for me to get used to the new buffer.

David...be careful with the buffer.  Slow speed and light pressure on gelcoat or it'll gouge in a heartbeat.  Just pretend it's a Corvette you're buffing.  Woody.

Will do, the buffer I got starts out at 600 rpm and goes up to 2200rpm , high torque low speed. I always thought gel coat was like fiberglass until I started researching how to buff it and discovered it will bounce and melt.

Won't be buffing this week end, supposed to rain AGAIN.

I love the look of a nice shiny roof but one admonition: It will be very slippery.

We had our roof painted to elimminate the streaking that eventually happens and runs down the side of the coach. (also, because it is hard to buff and wax that area!) The roof gets 99% of the UV and weather damage.  The paint turned out to be a great idea, and Extreme used a glass bead addition that made it non-skid, but also easy to wash.  Keep that in mind for the future.

And remember that coating can be cut thru very easily as it is thin

I do NOTHING on the roof except wash it.  No buff (gel coat is very thin, compared with side walls and particularly the end caps that are even thicker) and no wax (makes it slippery.

I don't mess with mine just wash with car wash an a little bleach let sit and rinse. Turns out bright white. Only do it about twice a year unless attacked by dripping trees 🤬

Truth be told. It would be cheaper to ruin a Corvette paint job.  ^.^d  :))  I'd find a Corvette to practice on.
