Entry Step Magnetic Switch Wiring

So we are new owners of a 2000 U320 and the coach is in great shape.  In the process of some general housekeeping issues we have found the entry step to operate intermittently while traveling down the highway.  Upon investigation, apparently at some point the magnetic switch was replaced with a manual switch that engaged by the outer door when closed. 

The dilemma is the negative wire is broken in the wall, I can only assume this was done when the entry was upgraded to tile on the side walls.  They grounded the switch to the door frame instead of completely rewiring the switch.  The positive wire is also damaged and was soldered to add enough wire to make the connection but the insulation has failed.  I can heat shrink new insulation on the connection, but I am worried that this is a weak point and it all may go south eventually.

Do these wires originate in the kick panel in front of the passenger seat?  If so I would think I could just route wires to a new mag switch along the door frame near head as the tile on the wall below would make running wires to the old location very difficult.

I'm open to suggestions as I want a solid fix not a band aid and have run short on ideas.

Howdy Dave, Congrats on your coach, I think 2000 U320s are great coaches!  Attached is a print that may help with sourcing the wire. In the upper right quadrant of the print (really have to blow print up to 150%), there is a wire ID'd as 108a, Door Switch and feeds from Breaker 52.  I "think" this will be in front kick panel.  I haven't checked any of this, but just have looked at the print.

Thanks!  I assume the other side can go safely to ground, chassis or ground block?  I will check out the kick panel tonight.  I also have a signal trace coming to try to help.
