Rain, Rain Go Away!

Everytime it rains I get water build and overflows into the coach.  Its not coming in from the roof seal.  There is a rim that I believe comes around from the condenser pan to air return inlet side.  I believe the water comes in from the condenser exhaust side and fills the condenser pan.  Any idea where the drain holes are located?  They may be plugged.  It never overflows when the air is running only in heavy rain.  Is there any other area to look at?  It builds up along the rim in the picture.

John, I had water come in our rear AC when it rained. Finally found out it was coming around the AC shroud front driver's side hold down bolt, migrating over to the front left of the 14" opening, inside the AC, and then down onto our bed. Not good.
I put caulk on the washer and bolt head on the top and---no more leak.
Might give a look at your hold down bolts. Just another possibility for you to check out.

Condenser should not need a pan or drain. Sounds like a $15-20  gasket issue.

According to the service manual, page 59, section C22g there is a drain pan with holes that can be clogged. We will check it out in the morning after it stops raining.

We are next door in Illinois outside of the Chicago area by Starved Rock.  It rained ALL NIGHT and we have another batch coming this evening starting around 7pm.  I need to find the problem soon. I don't want to stay up all night bailing out accumulated water in the AC through the 14" hole again.😫

By the way, in my quest to find help online last night I found this website for Bryant RV Services.  They are like a library of information loaded with trouble shooting guides, service and owners manuals for anything rv related.  A nice resource of information.

John, have you checked the four bolts that hold the AC down? Might have to snug them up a bit and compress the foam gasket a bit more.
When was the last time the gasket was replaced?
Ours leaked and compressing didn't work anymore so I got new gaskets and put them on "backwards". In other words, I put the "sticky" side down and caulked around the outside of the foam. Overkill? Probably, but I hate leaks! I then lifted the AC into place with the help of our son, while the DW was inside acting as our spotter. Two years now and no leaks. Water would have to get deeper on the roof than the thickness of the gasket, so, that doesn't happen.

Well went up on the roof and found the culprit.  Time to get new shrouds.  Found some bad cracks in the right front corner of the front AC.  The cracks were very large.  Luckily I carry a roll of Flex Seal Tape and was able to patch the cracks from the outside and inside of the shroud.  Very sticky stuff.  Lay it down correct the first time. I also found a crack in the rear AC in the same location and sealed it also.  Going to order the  new shrouds from ICON.  Tonight it is suppose to rain again.  We will see how it goes.  If no water, I will wait till I get back to Florida to change the shrouds.  Attached are pictures of the cracks and water pooling.

John,  the crack in picture #2 can be prevented by making a spacer that fits up in between the shroud and the metal base that it attaches to.  It will keep the shroud from sucking in when the screw is tightened.

I used pressure treated wood for my spacers and also added stainless fender washers to the screws.

Glad you finally found the leak.

Or nylon washer for spacer inside and ss fender washer and ss screw to replace OE.

I had the same problem with water coming in when it rained.  At first I thought it was the gasket and tightened the bolts some, but it still leaked.  Realized it was coming in from the ac drip pan and not from under gasket and thought maybe the drains were blocked. Went on roof and found crack on the front portion of shroud.  Covered it with eternabond tape and no more leaks.  So, I think you will find that your fix will keep you nice and dry.

Well it rained all night, again.  The coach didn't float away like Noah's Ark and the front AC stayed dry.  The fix doesn't look pretty from the outside but it's dry.  We will wait till we get back to Florida to change out the shrouds.  Even though they are not leaking we will replace the roof seals and service the AC's at the same time.  Thanks everyone for the help!, advice and ideas.
