Pre-flight and during flight checks

I've started checking under the engine each time we stop for a break.  We had a fuel leak back in March which I think I would have discovered much earlier if I had done that.  And since we are stopped at a safe location (e.g., a rest area) if I do discover a problem it is much better than finding some problem while on the road.  I also look at the tires and the connections to the towed Jeep during my walk around.    Of course, I always check the various fluids (oil, hydraulic and coolant) before starting out. 

Anything else to routinely check before starting out and during a trip?

Get a laser temp gun from HF and shoot tires and wheels at rest areas. I caught a sticking brake slide pin before any damage.

George, you can never be too safety conscious!  I second the heat gun!  You will find though that the inner rear tire will be higher, since more heat is trapped in that area.  Just a FYI!  When I stop in a rest area and using heat gun, my fronts are right around 120-125;  rear outsides are 140 or so.  Remember, you have the engine, tranny, etc., plus the wheel wells in that area, so temps will be higher.  I try and stop at least every 50 to 75 miles.  Hey, we are retired, no hurry!

You can always skip your diuretics.

We try for 250 mile days and when doing so stop every two hours for a stretch and to allow the tires to cool down.  Keeping in mind that on the previous coach the tires were running right at their maximum weight.  I love my Foretravel.

We too have an infrared pyrometer, but we use it mainly for troubleshooting and pan frying.
