Thetford Aqua Magic Galaxy Starlite Repair

My Thetford Aqua Magic Galaxy Starlite toilet no longer holds water. Looking at it from the inside of the bowl, it looks like a ring right above the flushing mechanism has deteriorated. From the parts diagrams I have looked at, this is part of the flushing mechanism and is not sold separately.
I do see a "Mechanism Seal Repair Package 08368" which costs considerably less than the complete mechanism but I think my problem would require the entire mechanism. In any case, here are photos of the toilet and the valve. I'm looking for advice from anyone who has been down this road....

Having the exact same problem with the exact same unit(they never appear to end).
 Following to see suggestions.
Where can we find instructions on repair/replace?

A complete throat assembly is available, however if that doesn't work for you I would be more than happy to swap your old galaxy low line for the new and improved version that I replaced mine with. May go down as one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made.

 Sounds like a crappy deal.

In the middle of rebuilding my Aria Classic... pulled it apart and replaced the shutter, the water valve and the vacuum actuator (not sure what it does exactly).. will finish tomorrow... buy as much as you can assembled .. rebuild everything you think might be bad as you are in their... Nothing like getting it all together and a week or month later the water valve starts messing up..

Unless someone comes up with a better solution, it appears that replacing the flush mechanism is the way for me to go. The original flush mechanism lasted 26 years.
I shopped around and $102.82 with free shipping is the best deal I found...

Looked at the Thetford site and came up with this.
Get a pair of gloves, release the pressure on your fresh water system and hold open the sliding valve.
Reach in where the valve would seat and find the groove there from about 5 o'clock to about 9 o'clock. (Actually part of the valve seal system).
Make sure all debris is removed from the seat.  You may have to be creative.  I had a big wad of tp stuck there.
Improved 2000%, but still some cleaning to do.

Thanks Moby. I have actually heard about cleaning out the groove and have done that in the past with success. This time, it does no good so I'm sure the gaskets are shot. Rather than just replace the gaskets, I'll spend the extra money and put in the whole assembly.

Here is an important update. I am usually a full timer and have never had this problem before but my coach has been sitting for the last 2 months and lack of use apparently affected the seals. Before you do anything, try this Thetford Toilet Seal Lubricant & Conditioner. I tried it and for less than $9, it solved the problem. PLUS, the container is still 3/4 full! I DID NOT follow the instructions that say use 8 ounces. I simply poured in enough to wet the seal and lever, then worked the lever a few times to lubricate the seals before adding enough to cover the seal. Then I repeated it after about 12 hours and let it sit for a few hours. Now the bowl holds water again.
