Isuzu secondary fuel filter

Still learning my way around this 270. Ive seen it in post here that the Isuzu powertech has a smaller fuel filter in addition to the spin on. I'm assuming the square metal in line in the photo is it.. 1 ...am I correct and if so where can I get one..I'm having no issues but the only way to insure clean filters is to replace them.

I have purchased these at NAPA and Advanced Auto Parts.  Screws into the inlet end of electric fuel pump.  I change it each time I do oil and filter changes.

OK.  There's your picture.  Your electric pump is different than mine.  I am not sure you have an inlet filter there.  I'm sure you could add one.  Just guessing.

Dub,

That square metal thing is your electronic fuel pump. Isn't there 2 wires hid that attach to that square  kind of under the bottom?  From the pics. I don't  see that little fuel filter. It is generally screwed into the pipe coupling where I see the fuel line connected to now.

Edit: Kimo just posted a pic of the filter on the other thread.

The primary filter can be found at any parts store or even WalMart. It's a clear plastic type with the only criteria being that the inlet and outlet fit your fuel hose. Most of the filters on this page fit both 1/4" and 5/16" diameter hose. Amazon.com: Clear - Fuel Filters / Filters: Automotive

The clear cover is nice as you can see any particles or algae that may collect in there.

If it doesn't have a filter in it I won't add one but if it does I want to replace it.. Don't want to take it apart without knowing because at this point it works.

This and the other thread need to be merged as there is good info on both.

Dub, it would be very unusual to have a diesel engine without both a primary and secondary fuel filter. If it does not, I would suspect the PO removed it for some reason. Pretty easy to stick it in the supply line before the electric pump. Use the wrap/euro/injection type clamp so it does not chew up the line and potentially create an air leak.

This is the preferred type: 10pcs Stainless Steel Mini Fuel Line Pipe Hose Clamp Clip 6-13mm Adjustable...

I am going to add a water/fuel separator filter in my generator fuel supply line. Have the napa filter at fuel pump also large fuel canister filter.

The generator does not share the same fuel line with the engine. It picks up fuel from well above the floor of the tank and is much less likely to pickup water since the water will quickly settle to the bottom of the tank. Even algae is not that likely but good to have the inside of the filter visible through the clear plastic as any foreign matter could be a tip off to check the bottom of the engine's primary filter.

It's a good idea to check both the generator and engine primary filter as a routine, perhaps when you check the oil dipstick on each engine. It only takes one fueling to introduce contaminants into the fuel system. The sooner it's seen, the faster it can be remedied.
