More plumbing wows...

I want to reposition the Moen faucet. I'm thinking of getting rid of the lower panel in the wet bay and keeping it open. Didn't like what I saw when I took the panels off. To easy to get gross with it all closed up. I understand why foretravel closed all that up but prefer to have easy access.
Anyway anyone ever take off the faucet? I can't get it off. Any tricks?

The faucet is retained by two big brass washers which are secured by the water hose connection nipples.  See photos.

Turn off water pump and shore water supply - drain off water pressure.
You will need to gain access to the back side of the mounting panel.
Lay a towel on the compartment floor to catch any spilled water.
Remove hot and cold water supply pipes from the faucet connections.
Unscrew threaded brass nipples from hot and cold faucet connections.
Pull the faucet off the panel.

Reviewed your old post for "behind the panel." Really nice! Have been thinking about doing something like that but have gotten no further. :D

A plumbing wow!  I guess.

Recent third dump valve installations (split from another topic)
I redid mine in stainless and used three panels. Bottom one has the manual waste valve controls, middle has faucet, 120v and TV connections, upper panel included the top.  After a year or so I just took out the top and ceiling panel and left it out for easier access and inspection.

Electric waste valves
There is a classic story about a coach with electric waste valves.  It was in for service at MOT and one of the service guys hit the switches inadvertently not knowing what they were for.  Half of the shop was flooded with waste.  What a mess.

If you have to have electric valves (just another thing to malfunction) put a key operated switch in the power line to the valves.  And use switches for the valves with very clear function labels and an indicator light for each valve to show that it is open.  Or toggle switches with covers that turn the switch off if the cover is closed.

If you make a mess you get to clean it up.

My switches are in the same location where the pull handles were, and are labeled. Monetary switches with lights showing they are open.

Roger, I was looking at your post from 5 years ago and want to do a direct fresh water fill like you did.  The question I have is what is the panel made of that you drilled through for the filler hook up.  Is it wood with metal framing ? Anything to worry about hitting or drilling through ?  Thanks for your help.

We removed the top half of our water bay, above the faucet. Discarded the top. We don't have Aquahot so there is not a heater coil back there. Now on the space above the ABS sewer plumbing we keep sewer hoses.

Also removed trim on top of holding tanks and the other trim on top of fresh water tank, where we installed a gravity feed PVC pipe.

Now all these spaces are visible to see leaks and store things.

We also have a water alarm under ABS sewer pipes. Nice to have all this open. We left bottom panel in place with faucet.

Mark, if you have a slide then you have the truss along the top of the bay openings on the driver's side.  It is an open truss made of 1.5" square steel tubing.  There are horizontal pieces along the top and bottom and some vertical pieces and some diagonal pieces.  Blue foam is fitted between the steel parts and the truss is covered with a thin fiberglass sheet on the inside and outside of the truss. Some sections are then covered with a thin carpet.

Get a strong magnet and slide along the white fiberglass panel.  When you get to one side of the steel tube it will be obvious.  Make a mark.  Come at the same area in the opposite direction to find the other side of the tube. Keep at it. Pretty soon where tubing is and is not will be apparent.  I use a hook on a magnet thing.

I used a recessed hose attachment to be sure to clear the door.  There is enough room that I am pretty sure a flush one would work.
