speedometer

I am replacing the original non-functioning speedometer in my '93 U240.  It has the MD3060 Allison 6 speed.
I bought the new speedometer at North Hollywood Speedometer and they sent me a wiring diagram with
3 wiring options depending on which sending unit is in the trans. Does anyone happen to know if the sending
unit is hall-effect, inductive, or engine control unit?  Thanks, Ron

Sorry, I can not answer your question.  Try calling Allison and ask them.  There is a label on the driver side of the transmission with serial # model, etc.  You may have to clean the dirt and grease off to read it or take a picture.

The Speed-o-meter,
is (most likely) the single cheapest replacement item FT sells.
I pulled out my old one and put the new one in without any issues.  pc

So, I am running to this same issue and was wondering if anyone ever found an answer to Ron's question. Thanks in advance, Brian

First you put on your coveralls.
Second you block you rig up so that it can't squash you.
Third you slide (squirm) up to your transmission and write down all of the numbers on the Data plate.

Ja, shure, you betcha! The data plate will be on the OTHER side, no matter which side I start with. The engine, transmission, and all of those other very solid metal things under there don't move up when I push the raise button. Fifty years ago I was skinny enough to fit under there, and had good enough vision to read those numbers and letters.

The speedometer on my coach reads 0 all the time. It does count the miles, though, so I'm thinking that either something is disconnected somewhere or the needle is loose. If the problem can be cured by changing the speedometer in the dash I'll get a replacement from Foretravel and do it myself while I'm at The Ranch. If the problem is back by the transmission I'll let the young, skinny guys take care of it.

Usually if one part of the speedo works, the input signal is good.
 FWIW ,if the sender has 3 wires,  it could be a hall sender. Ground,  12 v or 5V plus, signal.
  2 Wires could be VR sender.  + , _

Ok.  How about a $20 and a skinny neighbor kid?

If the odometer works then you've everything you need and the electronics in the speedometer head have gone south.  You might get lucky if you open up the speedo and look for broken solder joints.  High magnification and bright lights can be purchased on-line for short money.  Other than that you need to know the sender type.  Then again the VDO dealer might be able to look at your speedo head and sell you what you need given that you still have a signal.
