Kitchen and Bath backsplash

Bought the material a few months ago.. started taking the old back splash off and prepped the wood.. the old stuff was really stuck on their.

Shaved the half round down a little so it didnt stick so far past the face of the tile to make it a little more smooth on the transition.. still need to grout. Maybe this week..

It will be a tan grout to match the decor.

Looks good David.  What is the bar thing attached to the end of the MW? Magnetic?  Source?

Thanks

That is my paper towel rack.. didnt like the ones that sit on the counter so I made one and added magnets to the base and I stick it to the side of the microwave.. up and out of the way.. works great.

David looks great!  Thinking of this too. Like the tile you picked out.

Nice job with the tile David.  Great job on the radius corners as well!  I like the idea on your paper towel holder.  Will pass this by the DW and see what she thinks!

I will take a pic when I am back in town. Thinking of doing the shower also.. this looks so nice .. I sat on the pieces for 6-8 months. Debating the colors but after I actually put it up.. came out really nice and I am very happy

So is the misses so that is a plus..

Side note.. never noticed as I don't cook typically .. the plug on the wall next to the fridge .. I should have moved it higher.. can't lift the stove cover without unplugging everything. Luckily we don't use it much so not a big deal but keep that in mind if you decide to do it.

Once, when we were camping with my son and his family, he asked me,"Where are your paper towels, mom?"  "In the microwave!"
......  {{{{crickets}}}}  "Well, of course ... ", he replied.  "Where else would a person keep paper towels."

Handy to the sink, easy to grab, never hit the floor when a quick stop was necessary.  Made sense to me!

If you must replace microwave, do you think the "sidewrap" of the backsplash will interfere?

That was a concern early on.. thought about it and I will keep some extra tile Incase ... didn't want the thought of the microwave going out from keeping the project from getting done..

We shaved the rounded trim pieces down over half of depth..

It will be a tight squeeze in and out if needed

Yes that is the question isn't it? On many of my projects, I have to ask myself the same question. Is this money well spent, or could I use my limited resources (retiring next year) on something else, like a canoe, or a membership to a gym, or more diesel fuel....
What's necessary, what is fluff? Sure the backsplash Foretravel left us works. And looks OK... but... people like to improve their living situation. I'm fairly certain that some cave man or woman, looking at their cave in the winter, said, that opening could use some nice blinds and the firepit needs a spit to hang meat... and let's put up some paintings on that wall, spruce the place up a bit....
Yea I think it's worth it.
