Power Cord Reel Stuck

On the same trip that I had problems with my Aqua Hot I started to have problems with my power cord reel.  When I pull on the cord the reel it is locked and will not rotate. It pulls out about a 1/4 turn then comes to a stop.  If I play around with it for a long time it will release and then sometimes when it is releasing it won't lock to keep the cord out.  Has anyone had this issue? Can these reels be repaired?  I don't even know if the company that makes them is still in business.  Just thinking that it may have a broken spring on the locking system causing it to fail in either direction.  We will take it out, take it a part and update.

I have had similar problems on my air and grease hose reels and it is usually a spring. Post what you find to fix yours.

Could be the locking dog that fits in the notches on ring. Most probably just needs taking apart and a bit of grease on the pieces

John mine comes out but won't lock until I take something and push toe locking dog over!!! the spring appears to be ok so I was thinking about a liberal dose of WD-40 or penetrating oil in the locking dog.

John, on our coach there is a small slot where the lock dog is visible --I push on the lock dog with a small piece of metal being careful to not touch anything else

Well I finally got a break in my schedule to work on my cord reel.  All is good, lock dog was stuck on the shaft. Attached are pictures of the reel ID Tag, lock dog shaft, nut and spring location.  Well here is what I learned....
1.  The nut on the lock dog shaft can be removed if you needed to replace the lock dog.  A lot to take apart if it ever needed to be replaced. 

2.  If you tighten the nut it bottoms out on the end of the shaft and if you keep turning it allows you to spin the shaft. 

3.  On the other end of the shaft is a snap ring holding the lock dog on the shaft. 

4.  While spinning the shaft using a 3/4" ratchet wrench and spraying a silicone spray lubricant with an extension nozzle on the lock dog and shaft I was able to clean, lubricate and free up the lock dog.

It is working great now.  Hope this helps someone struggling with the same issue.
