My TV project

I wasn't really sure if I wanted a TV or a projection television. I thought the projection TV would be cool cuz I could take it outside and project it onto the side of the coach at times. Would give you a 200-in screen that would be sweet. But to be honest I don't think I would use it very often. my other idea was a large screen TV in a box across from the jackknife sofa, on a lift. Originally wanted the meural canvas after seeing it on the Foretravel Prevost ad. But no good place to put it on this coach.
So I went with a Samsung 55 inch QLED TV called the frame. The theory is 4K tv when you want it, but art when you want that. Art could be a painting or photo. Or your own photos. They sell frames to fit around it too as well, so you could put a wood frame, white, black or bronze.
I bought a touchstone motorized lift and put it down across from the jackknife. I then built a cabinet around it. or I'm in the process of building a cabinet around it. I built it at a 1x2 and 1x3. 1/2-in plywood for the sides which I then include some walnut veneer to. Put a stain on the veneer and then covered it with three coats of Deft clear coat. Added three outlets one inside and two outside. The outside outlets have two USB charging ports each.
Connected it for the first time tonight everything works like it should. Just have two more things to work out. The front of the cabinet, and the top. Originally I was just going to put a quarter inch piece of plywood covered and walnut veneer held on by magnets so I could get into it when I needed to. Now I'm not sure that's what I want to do. I'm thinking now to partially enclose it imply and make a pull out opening in the front maybe. Thinking of adding some speakers inside for left and right channel but put the center channel up top in the storage compartment along with an amplifier. I'll put a subwoofer on the floor next to the cabinet. As for the top originally I was going to use the walnut pieces from the windows that I took off. But I'm not sure I have enough now. So I may just make it out of half inch plywood with some hinges and figure out what to cover it with. So it's work in progress.

The LVT I put in is Karndean SCB71 in floating floor. Pretty nice stuff. Has a sound coating on the bottom. 4.5mm thick. 48X7 ". Got it at a local flooring place. Not available at the big box stores.

I left the original jackknife sofa which I had recovered last year in ultra leather. I still have the two original dining chairs which I also recovered in ultra leather, and I have a Herman Miller aeron office chair that I'll be using too. The dining table will be a piece of mahogany that I have that will be 48 by 32-in and there will be another smaller connecting piece in the same mahogany that will be about 28 in by 22 in I think. so they'll be a connection between the dining room table and the TV table just on a different level. My wife's been wanting me to get rid of the mahogany coffee table that we've had for a long time and the end tables so I'm going to repurpose them. I'm going to send them the bare wood and varnish them. I already did it to our dining room table with a two-part marine epoxy varnish and it looks fantastic so I expect similar results with this. Although I'm going to use a different varnish.
Think I have a good idea I had to finish the TV cabinet. There will be a pop out in the center held in by magnets so I can get in there if I need to do something.
The Samsung TV is really unique and that there is only a single small fiber optic cable that goes between the TV and a box that comes with it. Everything else gets connected to that box. That fiber optic cable supplies both power and signal to the television. That box will be in the lower box that I built, everything else will be in the overheads such as a DVD player for now, but next Christmas I will be putting in a new Xbox. The new Xbox is supposed to be as powerful as a desktop PC now and will supply 4K DVD capability as well as gaming if I wish to do that. All the sound will be optical through a Sony 4K amplifier that I've yet to buy. Eventually they'll be a 5.1 system with the rear surrounds and I'll use my paradigm sub as well as my MK speakers for the front. I also have a paradigm center channel speaker that will be on the overhead. So if I want to listen to TV the right way I'll just have to pop open one of the cabinets above, unless I remove the drawer middle and put in some speaker mesh. I thought the 55 inch was going to be overkill, but I actually like it I've been watching some TV last night and today and I really like the way it looks. And gaming on the Xbox and 4K would be awesome with it. I haven't gained on a computer or an Xbox for 7 years, But I'll be retired so who cares. I'll post more pictures as I do more work on it.

This is how we did our tv lift. We put the original table in front of the cabinet Ed built for the tv. It is across from our original jackknife sofa.

Bob,you might consider putting doors on the front — makes it easier to move accessories around

Chris there won't be much reason to get in the cabinet often. I was thinking of magnets holding the front on. Easy and cheap. But still looking at it.

Ed what size TV is that?

I hung a 55 inch from under the header. Only use it when parked for the winter in fl. Takes only a minute to hang. Rides against the wall behind the recliner when traveling. In the summer I set a 40 on the dash. Rides on the bed when driving.

That's a great solution, as you don't have to do too much work relocating the heating convector. Got me thinging now.

Awesome, what a great idea! I have a triangle table with a heating convector which would be a PITA to relocate. Got me thinking though

We're ready to get to work on this project. We're buying a 50 Inch TV Tomorrow. Can you help me understand what was involved with relocating the side table cabinet?

Ours has a Heating Convector under the front door, is yours the same? If so Did you relocate the piping or just extend the sheetmetal for the heat? or something different.

Paul I don't know your coach, but extending the heating should be fairly easy. Just splice in some new hose. If it's under the table that's behind the passenger side chair, what about putting it under the passenger chair itself? You may have to build a box for it and you of course have to check height but I think if you have the same ones that I have it would fit. On my coach at the front heater is under the jackknife sofa just behind the driver's seat. And of course on the dash. So for me it wasn't an issue.
