Re: What are those Reply #3 – June 11, 2020, 10:28:07 pm What's a deer whistle? They are not wired to anything. Pardon my ignorance. Quote Selected
Re: What are those Reply #4 – June 11, 2020, 10:31:10 pm It's kind of like a dog whistle that works when you're going down the road. Deer are supposed to hear it and get out of the way. I think they can hear a different range of frequencies than us like dogs can. Quote Selected
Re: What are those Reply #6 – June 11, 2020, 11:18:02 pm Yep. Deer whistle. Ran them on everything when I lived in Steamboat Springs. They work most the time Quote Selected
Re: What are those Reply #7 – June 12, 2020, 12:56:32 am Lots of serious believers in them when I ran my Foretravel store in the late 80's. Everyone from deer areas insisted on them Quote Selected
Re: What are those Reply #8 – June 12, 2020, 08:37:06 am Quote from: Travelin' Man – June 11, 2020, 10:41:49 pmThey're a scam.Agree.The big oilfield service company I worked for tried installing them on all the company vehicles. No proven benefit. There are lots of deer in Texas. I personally drove my company car, fitted with deer whistles, past countless deer standing in the road or right at the edge of the pavement. They totally ignored my car. Didn't even lift their heads to acknowledge my passing. You could get a more noticeable reaction by laying on your horn, except if they did bolt, half the time it would be right into your path. One big bug hits the whistle, and it is plugged up, so you have to clean them regularly to maintain "effectiveness".Since they are relatively cheap, at least you don't waste much money when you buy them. Above is my opinion, based only on my experience. DWMYH Quote Selected

Re: What are those Reply #10 – June 12, 2020, 10:36:57 am I am an agent for one of the big insurance companies. We used to give them away by the thousands. Several years ago the company told us that this research hasn't shown that they have any effect on the percentage of deer hits so we pulled that item. Quote Selected

Re: What are those Reply #12 – June 12, 2020, 06:02:11 pm The late great Don Jesseman, Allstate adjuster for 35 years also collected antique automobiles. After installing the "correct" T-3 headlights in his 1964 Cadillac he decided to go for a drive at dusk "to break them in."A deep came bounding out from the side of the road, bounced off the car ahead of him and took out the two headlights on the right side along with associated hardware. He collected himself, calmed down the other driver who just happened to be female and was preparing to head home when two good old NH boys stopped in their pickup truck: "That deer yours?" "No sir it isn't." "Thanks." And off went the deer after landing with a thump in the back of the truck. The woman came unglued again, worse than the first time "The police will never believe me!"Don called the woman's insurance company the next morning. It never hurts to be kind, just so long as you don't make a habit of it.FWIW The deer whistles make you feel better. Re: What are those Reply #13 – June 13, 2020, 01:06:27 am Previous owner had them installed on the flat surface just above the front bumpers. Not sure of there effectiveness, however no encounters with a deer so far. Sure can't hurt, I'd leave them on. Quote Selected
