Understanding My New SilverLeaf VMSpec Reading - Oil Temp Fluxuates Green/Yellow

Just finished a short trip from The Woodlands to Nacogdoches. Interested in knowing if I have an engine temp issue, oil pressure issue and alternator charging issue (or anything else someone notices) that needs a good diesel shop to look at? Is eng temp fluxuating from green/yellow a concern? Does not seem speed related from what I can tell. Currently at Foretravel chasing a slow air leak. I have not completed the fuel setup procedure or any other setup procedures. Just plugged it in per Roger's initial setup procedure. Readouts below:

Mine fluctuates as in get hot when I drive and cools when I dont...

Cummins said oil temps in the 220-230 is ok for my motor. Ism 02

You need to go to the setup and make sure the correct engine is selected .. you can change the perimeters atoo

Engine selection has no impact on any gauge reading other than the HP and Torque gauges which are calculated values. The engine data are just lookup tables used in these calculations. Neither if these are particularly useful.  Engine load % is more useful to most users.

Battery volts look good.

Engine oil temp is in normal range.  Cummins told me for the ISM1/M11 that the oil cooling thermostat opens at 225.  You can adjust the temperature where the indicator turns to yellow. Every engine, every driver, every location and outside temp effects oil temp.  Mine runs 199 to 205 under most conditions.  If yours runs up to 210 occasionally then adjust the yellow level to about 212. The yellow indicator is letting you know you have gone outside your normal operating range.

Oil pressure will be high when the engine is cold. It will go down as the engine warms up.  When it is warm and you come up to a stop sign and the engine is idling it can drop down to around 18-20 psi.  Normal operation.

Coolant will usually be about 180°.  Transmission temp about 10° warmer. Retarder temp another 5° more than that.  Intake manifold is usually about 10-20° above ambient outside temperature.

Let me know if you have questions. Use the parameter editor to adjust the yellow indicator temperature setting for the oil temperature gauge.

Thanks Roger. I did read your install steps and that went perfectly but I will now focus on the other set of documentation you provided and let you know if I need help "tuning" the product to my setup. The challenge I am having is that the diesel shops (two so far) had different answers. I have found the expertise here is usually spot on thus the reason behind this thread. Appreciate your feedback.

Roger I had to change engines after the displays showed strange reading. My Coolant never raised over 135 degrees and other things were going on.. I went into options and chose the engine again and it seemed to fix the issues I was having.

Its electronics and they have a mind of there own.. Gremlins get in it and you need to reset or redo the install.. Windows comes to mind.

So to say the engine doesnt have anything to do with it might be correct on the technical side but in changing it on mine it happened to fix the issues I was having.

All I did was re-chose the same engine as I had for the last 2 years..Bingo

Walt,

My oil temp holds pretty steady at 205 + or - about 3 degrees.  I have the yellow light set to come on at 215 and the red at 230. 
I also grouped the engine info together in blue, transmission is magenta, fuel info green and performance in gray.  I also laid out the six items for which I have warning lights across the top two rows.  To me this makes quickly locating the info I am looking for easier.

Engine files have nothing to do with coolant temp.  You could pick any engine or none and it should display whe the engine ECM send.  VMSpc measures nothing, it simply displays what is reported.

The folks at Silverleaf sent this:
"The file is in fact just a look-up table for the specific engine's Torque and HP (T/HP) curves, as compared against RPM and load sensor. No other use is intended or in play."

I hear you but

I couldn't get my coach up to temp when driving.. would not go above 135 degrees.. going through the hills at night when cool and it was 120 degrees but would never get over the 135. After I reloaded the program it reported correctly... maybe the program corrupted after 2 years on the same tablet? But definitely was saying something it wasn't. After the re loading of the program it worked perfect ... don't think it was reading the computer from the engine correctly at all. But the reloading did fix it.

I did drive around for a couple months so it wasn't a 1 time reading .
