MD3060 R service

Hello All,
 Have just ordered 8 gallons of Amsoil full synthetic Trans fluid which meets all specs for this Transmission set forth by Allison. Dawned on me after order was placed that if this was like any other trans I've ever serviced then their will be some residual fluid left in the torque converter . Has anyone had any experience with this issue and if so is there any tricks to get as much of the old fluid to exit?

Allison does not recommend flushing.  They do recommend changing fluid and filters, and with the second fluid change with an Allison approved synthetic fluid (Transynd is the only one I have any experience with) you go from Dexron change interval to synthetic fluid change interval.

 yes brett is correct. I too use Amsoil Torque Drive in Allison(engine and rear end oils  too) and love it, you will too. Do not worry about Allison/Castrol telling you otherwise as I had this discussion years ago with "Tom"(oil guy from Castrol who said to me that it is not to be used) Well, I did and tranny works real nice and got a full 100% guarantee from Amsoil too. They would not give an ok to Amsoil because Amsoil would not pay the money they wanted to get on list. As you know all this Synthetic oil use was started by Amsoil and it took years for the "rest" to catch up to modern technology.

I haven't changed trans oil in my Allison trans yet but in any cars or trucks I've done there is more oil in the torque converter than the trans and the way I do the torque is after I have changed to  oil and filters in the trans I take to oil line that comes back from the cooler and take it off and place it over a bucket and get someone to start the engine and watch the oil come out and when it comes clean the job is done. I watch home much oil is in the bucket and when I think the trans maybe getting low I have engine shut down and fill the trans back up. I do that until I am satisfied the torque is changed and this also changes the oil in
the oil cooler. I hope this helps

If I remember mine takes about 6 gallons with filter change.

Then there should be about 1.5 gallons stuck in converter if yours is a 3060. Alot of the larger coaches have the 10 gallon capacity HD4060? mine is 7.5 gallon.

Getting ready to service the Allison 3060 and after doing the filter change was planning on putting the the Transynd Fluid.  I'm not sure if the PO had the synthetic or not, will it be an issue if I put in synthetic and the PO had non synthetic?
Am I ready correctly above that it wouldn't be a problem ?

You are correct-- Transynd and Dexron are compatible.  The only difference:

If it had Dexron in there and you change to Transynd, you will need to follow the Dexron service interval for the next service.

If it had Transynd in there and you used Transynd, you can follow the Transynd service interval.

Note, with the Retarder, follow the "severe" schedule for either of them.
